Why does the post-2015 agenda setting matter? What are the key issues at stake?
Finalizing the next set of development goals needs everyone’s participation. And based on lessons learned from meeting the Millennium Development Goals, there has to be a more comprehensive agenda to deal with current global realities, according to Amina Mohammed, special advisor to the U.N. secretary-general on post-2015 development planning.
“There has to be a conversation and a process in which we would get to the end where we owned it, take it back to country and we could hit the ground running. So that’s principally why we should do it,” Mohammed told Devex on the sidelines of the World Convergences Forum 2013 in Paris.
Mohamed also explained that expectations for the post-2015 agenda are high, outlining the need for partnerships to ensure sustainability and calling for an agenda that is “light enough to fly, but heavy enough to make an impact.” To succeed, she said, will take a move from political rhetoric, to will, to action on the basis of a clear road map.
