Save the Children International
About

Save the Children is the world’s leading independent organisation for children. They work in 120 countries. They save children’s lives; they fight for their rights; they help them fulfill their potential.

They work together, with their partners, to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives.

They have over two million supporters worldwide and raised 1.6 billion dollars last year to reach more children than ever before, through programmes in health, nutrition, education, protection and child rights, also in times of humanitarian crises.

They save children’s lives. They fight for their rights. They help them fulfil their potential.

Their vision is a world in which every child attains the right to survival, protection, development and participation. Their mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children, and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives.

They work in the poorest countries, where children are dying from completely avoidable causes. Their global campaign to save children’s lives, EVERY ONE, aims to give every child the chance to survive.

They provide medical aid, food, water and safety for children in the toughest circumstances, when disasters like floods, famine and wars endanger their lives. Although such crises are unpredictable, their expertise in humanitarian response means they can and will act quickly.

Millions of children around the world are in danger of abuse, neglect and violence. They’re keeping the most vulnerable children safe from harm. They reunite children with their families; they protect children who are refugees and those who have been exploited by adults. Education has the power to transform children’s lives. In countries like Afghanistan – where armed conflict keeps children out of the classroom – they’re building schools, training teachers and providing essential supplies. Over the last five years they’ve got 1.6 million more children into school in countries afflicted by conflicts, but this is just the start.

Save the Children is made up of twenty nine national member organisations raising funds and running programs domestically and/or internationally. In 2010, they reached more than 100 million children in over 120 countries, but their work alone won’t be enough to stop children dying for good. They’re mobilising people all over the world to challenge world leaders to help the poorest children survive and develop to fulfil their potential.

Their Structure

They are 30 national organisations working together to deliver programmes in over 120 countries around the world. Their national organisations work together to campaign for better practices and policies, build partnerships with communities, civil society, governments and the private sector, and to deliver programmes at scale to support children.

Save the Children also has four Advocacy Offices working for policy change to benefit children, targeting the United Nations, European Union and the African Union.

Save the Children International is based in London. This office is responsible for delivering their programmes internationally on behalf of members and their donors and working with national organisations to ensure they achieve the greatest possible impact for children.
