BACKGROUND
International Medical Corps, a global humanitarian nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs, seeks candidates for the position of Physician - Internal Medicine Specialist for our Health Systems Strengthening Program in Wau, South Sudan.
Established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in underserved communities worldwide. By offering training and health care to local populations and medical assistance to people at highest risk, and with the flexibility to respond rapidly to emergency situations, International Medical Corps rehabilitates devastated health care systems and helps bring them back to self-reliance.
International Medical Corps has been awarded funding through the Health Pooled Fund-South Sudan to support Wau Teaching Hospital. This is a tertiary hospital in Western Bhar El Ghazal delivering services to a wide catchment area in South Sudan. The project focuses on building capacity to increase access to, utilization, and quality of health services, and strengthen the referral system and management of the hospital. The facility, like many others in resource-limited areas, has low human resource capacity that poses a challenge to its effective delivery of quality patient care. To improve the quality of patient care, International Medical Corps will be supporting the Ministry of Health to train and build capacity of the management, clinicians, nurses, midwives, and other staff in the hospital. The International Medical Corps, in partnership with the Health Pooled Fund and Ministry of Health, is looking for an experienced Physician/Internal Medicine Specialist to provide specialist clinical services, train, and provide leadership at department level.
