The Australia PNG Economic Partnership (APEP) is an 8 year multi-sectoral investment which commenced in April 2022. APEP is delivered as part of the broader PNGAus Partnership which brings strong alignment and integration with GoPNG and GoA development priorities.

The Australia PNG Economic Partnership (APEP) is an 8 year multi-sectoral investment which commenced in April 2022. APEP is delivered as part of the broader PNGAus Partnership which brings strong alignment and integration with GoPNG and GoA development priorities.

APEP will work collaboratively with other Australian investments and development partners, to deliver impactful and sustainable development outcomes across five key engagement areas:

EOPO 1 - Safeguarding Macroeconomic Stability

EOPO 2 - Strengthening Public Financial Management for Improved Service Delivery and Inclusive Growth

EOPO 3 - Supporting More Efficient and Inclusive Markets

EOPO 4 - Fostering Inclusive Growth and Expanded Livelihoods

EOPO 5 - Catalysing Economic Research and Dialogue

Gender equality, disability, social inclusion (GEDSI) and women’s economic empowerment (WEE) are central to APEP and integrated across all engagement areas and activities. cross-cutting themes are climate and ensuring the perspectives of First Nations Australians are embedded into APEP planning and implementation.

Regular reflection, reporting, learning, and adaptation are applied to all engagement areas through APEP’s MERLA system.

About the Opportunity

The Economic Research and Dialogue (ERD) Pillar supports the strengthening of economic research in PNG.

The Research Facilitator Economic and Social Issues position is designed to work closely with APEP Pillars to identify and develop economic and social research opportunities including the impact of GEDSI, women’s economic empowerment and climate change that stimulate and contribute to a more efficient and productive economic sector in PNG.

About You

For applications to be considered, a response to the key selection criteria below must be provided.

  • Post graduate tertiary qualifications in research, evaluation, project management, social science, climate, economics or another relevant discipline.
  • Excellent practical understanding of research processes, with the ability to translate findings and outcomes into practice opportunities and deliver evidence-based reporting.
  • Recognition of GEDSI, women’s economic empowerment and climate change as key analytical frames to focus economic and social issues research.
  • Reporting requirements of GoPNG/DFAT
  • At least five years’ experience in a research environment in PNG.
  • Experience or interest in integrating GEDSI, women’s economic empowerment and climate change issues in research.
  • Ability to work effectively with internal and external researchers and research teams in PNG.
  • Strong written communication skills with experience preparing evidence-based reports.
  • Ability to convey important research findings to mixed audiences such as academic researchers, private sector, and citizens.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate and promote principles of gender equity, disability, and social inclusion in all aspects of this role.
