Title: Business Development Services (BDS) Specialist
Location: Bethesda, MD or New York, NY
General Position Summary: A US-based full-time position, the BDS Specialist will provide on-going technical support to current private sector development and health projects. The BDS specialist will have extensive knowledge in providing sustainable business development support services for the MSME sector and improving the bankability of MSMEs.
Responsibilities: The BDS specialist will work on various projects worldwide. Responsibilities may include: • Manage BDS components of larger USAID and World Bank contracts in which Banyan Global is either a prime or sub-contractor; • Conduct field missions as needed, including travel to Afghanistan and Pakistan. Travel is expected to compose 40% of the position. • Assess markets for gaps in the provision of business development services. • Design project strategies to increase and improve the provision of BDS as well as strengthen and increase the number of service providers; • Design market research studies to assess the needs and capacity of of MSMEs, evaluate the effectiveness of existing programs in meeting these needs, and recommend improvements wherever necessary; • Develop and deliver relevant training and capacity building programs for service providers (examples may include business planning, marketing, access to financing, accounting, etc); • Develop scopes of work for consultants, identify relevant industry specialists, and backstop field missions; • Support Banyan Global’s procurement process by writing, reviewing or advising on market development components of bids.
Position Qualifications • Master’s Degree in Business, Economics, or other relevant field. • 8 – 15 years work experience in market development or a relevant field, • Excellent training and communications skills in multicultural settings. • Experience with curriculum development. • International experience in providing direct BDS technical assistance and training to private enterprises and support to local BDS providers. • Knowledge and experience on the latest approaches in market development. • Experience working in a variety of sectors is desirable. • Knowledge and interest in the health sector and gender are a plus.
