Job Description
GITEC-IGIP GmbH, a leading and renowned German consulting company with a long-standing record in the international development business, requires services of a national expert (m/f) from Ethiopia to work full time in Addis Ababa, with frequent visits to the project site “Sheka Biosphere reserve” in the SNNP Region.
Position : Biosphere Reserve National Expert
Working Hours : Full time, with duty stations in Addis Ababa and the SNNP region
Duration : October 2019 till end of July 2021 (with possibility
of extension)
Tasks and responsibilities:
- Support concept of interventions and implement planned activities in Sheka biosphere reserve such as participatory forest management; development of non-forest timber products value-chain and relevant income generating activities
- Strengthen biosphere reserve management;
- Promote and strengthen community conservation in the biosphere reserve
- Organizational Development in the conservation sector for the Regional Government and its subordinated authorities in the SNNPRS Region
- Upkeep of /or support a dialogue-platform for the exchange of relevant public institutions (e.g. UNESCO MAB Program)
- Develop mechanisms for private sector involvement into conservation and management of the Biosphere reserve (e.g. tourism, certification, etc.)
- Other related tasks as required in the project / park management
Minimum Professional Requirements:
- Education/training: Postgraduate degree (min. Master degree) in the field of nature conservation and/or environmental science, or environmental economics
- Language: Good business language level in Amharic and English
- 8 years of experience of technical cooperation in biodiversity conservation
- 5 years of experience in value chain development
- 5 years of experience in the establishment and management of protected areas (in particular biosphere reserve)
- 5 years of experience in collaboration with private, public and civil society actors in Ethiopia and/or management in public-private partnerships and certification of market products
