JSI is currently recruiting for a Chief Data and Digital Transformation Officer to leverage cutting edge technology and drive our organization’s global data and digital portfolio forward. They will develop and execute JSI’s data and digital strategy at the enterprise level, embedding practices using data as an asset to shape more efficient program operations and impactful projects. This position will also oversee JSI’s growth in the data and digital space by leveraging assets and differentiators within JSI into opportunities on new projects, in new geographies, and with new donors. They will also drive cross-JSI innovation and learning to ensure JSI remains on the front line of emerging data platforms and technologies - including the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to public health challenges and projects.

The Chief Data and Digital Transformation Officer will be a member of JSI’s Executive Leadership Team, supervised by the Chief Executive Officer. They will closely collaborate with JSI leadership, including JSI’s Chief Finance and Operations Officer, Chief Information and Technology Officer, and other leaders across the organization to accomplish their scope. This position will be based in Boston or Washington, DC.
  • RESPONSIBILITIES
The Chief Data and Digital Transformation Officer will lead a wide range of strategic, technical, and business development initiatives within JSI and across divisions, to include the following tasks:

Strategy, Vision, and Leadership
  • Lead JSI’s external and programmatic data and digital transformation strategy in alignment in JSI’s division-level strategies, identifying opportunities to improve and expand our international data and digital services.
  • Oversee the strategic direction of data and digital programming at JSI, including external services such as enhancing data-driven decision-making processes, optimizing data governance frameworks, and localization of data and digital systems.
  • In collaboration with CITO, articulate vision for applying data and digital technologies and platforms - including AI and machine learning - to accelerate progress and impact within JSI’s international projects.
  • Support and strengthen data analytics and data use across JSI’s portfolio, and promote use of visual analytics, dashboards, and data products to improve project management, measurement, research, and knowledge management standards and practices.
  • Explore opportunities to leverage data science and advanced analytics capabilities within JSI’s U.S. portfolio, including how AI and machine learning can best be applied to solve complex public health challenges, and application of such approaches and tools for the purpose of evaluation, policy development, and systems change.


Growth
  • Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of data and digital opportunities from a variety of funders, in partnership with the business development team.
  • Lead responses to high-priority data and digital requests for proposals/applications.
  • Oversee the alignment of external marketing, communications, and engagement strategies with the data and digital strategy to drive growth.
  • Develop a roadmap for innovation with the relevant processes, tools, and metrics to support business objectives and new growth opportunities.
  • Foster an environment of innovation and best practices aligned with future market opportunities.
  • Assess opportunities to leverage JSI’s application of data science, advanced analytics, and AI/ML to enhance and grow JSI’s project portfolio in the U.S. and internationally.


Collaboration and Fostering Technical Leadership
  • Direct JSI global technical leadership in data and digital through cultivation of exceptional talent, identification of strategic themes for internal messaging, and engagement of colleagues in external-facing events.
  • Identify and cultivate new and emerging technical partners in the data and digital space.
  • Coordinate with other functional areas to ensure approaches to data systems are unified and able to collect, synthesize, analyze, report, and utilize information in alignment with JSI policies and values.
  • Ensure alignment of knowledge sharing platforms within data and digital projects that supports strong knowledge of emerging external trends and technological advancements.
  • QUALIFICATIONS
  • A minimum 20 years experience leading data and digital projects or practices in the public health sector.
  • Proven leadership of successful data and digital transformation projects globally.
  • A thought leader in data and digital transformation, with ability to envision and apply innovative practices in complex and evolving health systems.
  • Understanding of JSI’s core business and market space within the data and digital market.
  • Proven track record of identifying, tracking, and winning bilateral, multilateral, and/or private sector solicitations.
  • Knowledge of global donors, such as USAID, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, including their programmatic priorities, business solicitation practices, rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of the public health sector, current trends and priorities.
  • Experience in managing and leading large scale data and digital teams across multiple locations and settings.
  • Experience successfully working with international/cross-cultural teams; experience working in non-U.S. settings preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
  • Fluency in English, written and oral. Fluency in other languages is preferred.
  • Willingness to travel internationally as necessary (~15-25%)
