Duties

The Chief Diversity Officer performs the following major duties:

  • Design and institute agency-wide changes, co-create recommended courses of action and secure senior leadership approval and drives implementation of ICDEIA related goals.
  • Serve as a thought leader and collaborative partner to senior leadership group on ICDEIA related issues including strategic opportunities and risk management related to ICDEIA
  • Maintain knowledge on current and emerging developments and trends; collaborates with senior management to factor new trends and/or risks in future strategies.
  • Ensure Executive Orders related to ICDEIA are coordinated across the agency and establish work streams and accountability measures for EO owners.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to team members and internal/external stakeholders on complex topics related to ICDEIA in a global setting.
  • Model the values of ICDEIA in response to critical and/or crisis events and provide coaching and mentorship for senior leaders to do the same with particular sensitivities to historically marginalized communities.
  • Ensure change management principles are implemented in ICDEIA efforts to ensure achievement of goals.
  • Design and manage processes that build mutual trust, particularly with historically marginalized communities.
  • Advise internal partners on appropriate and effective interventions based on data latest research.
  • Stay abreast of state-of-the-art global diversity, equity and inclusion best practices and bring leading trends, innovation, and thought to the Agency’s learning and development team.
  • Work collaboratively with key leaders to cultivate an environment that fosters innovation and inspires creative solutions to diversity, equity, and inclusion challenges; and include ICDEIA interventions into programs to close vulnerabilities.
  • Provides leadership and oversight to the review of PC Manual Section to ensure coverage of ICDEIA objectives and goals; and provides expert consultation and guidance to senior leadership with regards to ICDEIA inclusion in Manual Section.

Peace Corps Information

  • This is a Federal civilian job in the Excepted Service. Peace Corps employees are paid on the Foreign Personnel (FP) pay scale.
  • Initial appointment of employment cannot exceed five years.

Qualifications

FP-01 (Equivalent to the GS-15)
To be minimally qualified for this position at the FP-01 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression, FP-02 or GS-14 level which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is defined as: Experience leading global Intercultural Competence, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (ICDEIA) efforts for the agency and providing strategic direction, guidance, and enterprise-wide coordination to the ICDEIA program; Experience developing and implementing the ICDEIA strategy, program elements and deliverables, and monitoring programs that promote diversity, inclusion, equity, and accessibility within the Agency; Experience providing oversight and leadership to the day-to-day operations, including quality and timeliness of activities, and ensuring compliance with mandates and policies.

Time-in-Grade Requirements:

You must meet applicable TIG requirements to be considered eligible. To meet TIG for positions above the GS-05 grade level, you must have served at least one year (52 weeks) at the next lower grade (or equivalent) in the normal line of progression for the position you are applying to. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week, on your resume. Please note: Peace Corps employees are employed using the Foreign Personnel (FP) pay scale. The FP pay plan does not follow the same structure as the GS pay plan. In the FP pay plan, as the grade-level numbers decrease the level/pay for the position increases (e.g., the FP-09 is the lowest entry-level pay and the FP-01 is the highest senior-level pay).

Intelligence Background Information

Peace Corps Manual Section 611 is applicable to this position. This section prohibits the employment of certain persons previously engaged in intelligence activities or connected with intelligence agencies within the past 10 years. If you have ever worked for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), you are not eligible for employment at the Peace Corps in any capacity, and you should not apply for employment.

Acceptance of employment with Peace Corps precludes employment by certain intelligence organizations for a specific period of time, determined by the employing agency, after Peace Corps employment ceases.
