Communications and Marketing Specialist – Pacific Leadership and Governance Precinct

Long term role based in Port Moresby.

Program Overview

The PNG Governance Facility (PGF) is an innovative governance initiative in Papua New Guinea, aimed at contributing to security, stability, basic service delivery and inclusive growth for all Papua New Guineans. The PGF will be responsible for the design and implementation of most of Australia’s future governance portfolio under the strategic direction and oversight of the Australian and PNG Governments. Bringing governance activities under one umbrella, the facility will enable DFAT to achieve greater coherence between, and consolidation of, individual activities, effective gender mainstreaming, smarter administrative, contracting and management processes, and improved knowledge sharing and actions on lessons learned across the governance portfolio.

Role Summary

The Pacific Leadership and Governance Precinct is a partnership between Papua New Guinea and Australia to develop a new generation of ethical leaders who can implement Government of PNG priorities for the benefit of the nation’s people.

The Communications and Marketing Specialist will be is responsible for promoting the work of the Precinct, and the Papua New Guinea Governance Facility more broadly, to stakeholders and external audiences. Role responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Drive the development and implementation of a Pacific Leadership and Governance Precinct communications strategy
  • Work with Precinct partners and implementing contractors to promote their activities and support their engagement with public and private sector partners
  • Identify communications and marketing activities and foster engagement with relevant stakeholders
  • Facilitate engagement with the Precinct by supporting and facilitating seminars and networking opportunities
  • Support the broader PGF communications team
  • Develop high quality communications materials to support and promote Precinct and PGF activities for a PNG audience
  • Provide communications and marketing capacity building, which may include developing strategies, providing training for Precinct managers and staff, and motivating them to publicise their activities and products
  • Lead reporting on Precinct activities and progress

The successful candidate will bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Communications/ Marketing/ Media or related field
  • 5-7 years’ professional experience in public relations, journalism, marketing or a related field
  • An understanding of the public diplomacy requirements of the Australian and PNG Governments
  • Strong demonstrated skills and experience in developing high quality communications content and strategies, publications and promotional materials
  • Experience in liaising with national media organisations to drive press releases and manage media coverage
