ABOUT THIS ROLE

The Aspen Policy Academy seeks a part-time Communications Intern to support content development and outreach. This role reports to the Events and Communications Coordinator and will work closely with the Strategy and Operations Manager and the broader Academy team. The intern will play a key role in communications, programming, and supporting the in-person Science & Technology Policy Fellowship in the summer.

This is a remote position, but candidates based in San Francisco, CA, are preferred to take advantage of our in-person office space. The internship is expected to last six months, with a possibility of extension. The anticipated workload is approximately 10 hours per week, with some fluctuation depending on program needs. The hourly rate for this role is $20/hr.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Communications & Content Development

  • Draft weekly policy newsletters and news posts highlighting policy impact and alumni.
  • Develop case studies and quarterly mini-reports for funders and partners.
  • Write public communication emails promoting Academy programs and events.
  • Track media hits, and Academy mentions.
  • Promote Academy programs to like-minded organizations and online communities.
  • Compile and organize large contact databases.
  • Assist in drafting and editing presentation materials for Academy events, including sourcing images and graphics.
  • Support the compilation of results for large-scale surveys, including the Academy’s annual report.
  • Provide occasional WordPress website support.


Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist with operational or programmatic tasks as needed, given the small size of the Academy team.
  • Attend Academy training sessions, gaining exposure to policy advocacy skills and industry guest speakers.

  • Some experience in communications, writing, and content development.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Interest in policy, nonprofit work, and digital communications.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
