Job Description

Position Summary:

Making Cents seeks a Communications Intern to work as part of a collaborative team on a wide range of communications-related activities. You will contribute to shaping Making Cents’ corporate communications strategy, developing materials for print, online and social media. Using your strong writing and organizational skills, you will work with our technical specialists to develop marketing and communication materials that clearly tell the story of Making Cents’ work. Success in this role requires you to process often detailed, and industry-specific, project information to develop collateral to communicate project outcomes to diverse external audiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Contributing to and disseminating monthly newsletter.
  • Conducting social media outreach (tweeting through Making Cents’ handles, posting to Making Cents’ Facebook and LinkedIn accounts).
  • Writing succinct and compelling copy for a variety of media.
  • Keeping content fresh on Making Cents’ corporate website (www.makingcents.com) by posting content solicited from staff and reviewing current/old content and making editorial updates.
  • Identifying and posting content (e.g., new reports, articles, events, blogs) on Making Cents’ website YouthEconomicOpportunities.org .
  • Contributing to Youth Economic Opportunities monthly E-Bulletin.
  • Supporting promotion of the Global Youth Economic Opportunities
  • Summit in close collaboration with Making Cents’ knowledge management team.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, demonstrating strong academic achievement
  • At least one year of experience working with social media in a professional capacity
  • At least one year of professional experience developing written materials for newsletters and websites

Our ideal candidates are:

  • Enrolled in or a recent graduate of a master’s level program
  • Excellent writers

  • Meticulously focused on details, organization, and meeting deadlines
  • Perceptive and adaptable
  • Experienced in international development, either through direct work or training (e.g., Peace Corps or similar overseas development program)

Anticipated Time Commitment:

Eight to twelve (8-12) hours per week, working both remotely and within Making Cents’ office each week. Schedule and total hours negotiable.
