Job Description

The Director, Institutional Partnerships is a new position, which will lead and strategically advise on VillageReach’s global relationships with bilateral, multilateral and top corporate funders. This position will collaborate with organizational leadership to build, maintain, and grow a healthy pipeline of opportunities with multilaterals, bilaterals and corporations, towards a goal of increasing VR’s competitiveness and raising $50M in multi-year funding. The Director, Institutional Partnerships will lead or advise country teams on building relationships with national level funders including USAID, PEPFAR, CDC, FCDO, the EU, International Development Banks (e.g. World Bank, IMF, ADB), and use strategic thinking, judgment, and relationship building skills to generate partnerships for VillageReach. In addition, we expect this position to support existing Global Fund and Gavi relationships. This position will also help advance VillageReach’s relationships with strong Prime partners, to position VillageReach for successful coalitions. The candidate must bring strong leadership, administrative, management, presentation, reporting, communication, and diplomacy skills.

This multi-faceted role will be part of the Business Development Team, reporting to the Director, Development, under the Partnerships & Impact Team. This position will ideally be based in the Washington D.C. metro area.

Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time.

  • · Maintain a portfolio of top institutional donors and build stronger global relationships with decision makers in the United States, Europe, EMEA and Asia to complement regional and national fundraising
  • · Work closely with Country Directors and national staff to build engagement strategy for bilateral and multilateral donors, including strong organizational position with Ministries of Health and EPI, and develop compelling investment cases/concept notes that are aligned with donors’ interest.
  • · Identify, research and cultivate new strategic relationships with multilateral and bilateral stakeholders to strengthen the organization’s fundraising, global positioning, and advocacy efforts.
  • · Stay current on giving trends and upcoming funding opportunities through forecasts, meetings with stakeholders and peer discussions to help position VillageReach for strategic opportunities.
  • · Provide coaching and mentorship to staff with responsibilities including but not limited to 1) Cross-share institutional knowledge across organization; 2) Coordinate feedback loops to colleagues around peak interests and priorities for those donors; 3) Work with leaders to create engagement strategy, messaging, data analytics tailored to priority; 4) Work with impact team to identify data and impact measurements that are meaningful to donors
  • · Lead planning for meetings with institutional donors and guide end-to-end relationship management to ensure strong planning and follow-through (answering donor questions, sending impact info, etc)
  • · Work with Country Directors and Business Development Team to create strong position for VillageReach with NGO partners, including Primary Recipients and other Primes and advise organizational leaders on partnership and consortium opportunities that can position VR to be successful with institutional partners
  • · Collaborate with Advocacy Team to align business development with advocacy, and support efforts to deliver key messages to primary stakeholders
  • · As needed, lead or provide consulting on proposal development, analyzing and recommending bid decisions, and conceptualizing teaming, technical approaches and budget decisions to maximize competitive advantage
  • · Work with country and technical teams to develop collateral for donor meetings, including writing concept notes and creating presentations.
  • · Work with Business Development Team to develop and refine tools to support business development process and be an internal champion for business development processes.
  • · Maintain extensive knowledge of VillageReach solutions and strategies to create links between VillageReach priorities and partners’ and donors’ priorities.
  • · Represent VillageReach at conferences, meetings and other opportunities to interact with key collaborators to strategically influence new programming decisions, and develop and negotiate strategic partnerships.

Education & Experience:
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience in international development, with strong experience related to multilaterals and bilaterals. Experience in global health highly preferred.
  • Experience working with top funders including: Gavi, The Global Fund, USAID, World Bank and other bilaterals and multilateral
  • Experience building philanthropic revenue pipeline of $15M+
  • Proven experience cultivating successful and complex external relationships and partnerships relationships with a range of funders, partners, and other stakeholders that lead to financial commitments
  • Proven experience in evaluating and negotiating consortia to pursue larger business development opportunities.
  • Strong external presence and comfortable representing the organization externally

  • Willingness to travel a minimum of 4 weeks per year and spend 1-3 days per month in Washington, D.C.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel).
  • While not required, advocacy experience is an asset.
    English fluency required. Fluency in French or Portuguese preferred.

Environment and Physical Demands:

VillageReach has no private offices, employees work in a shared, open environment with task and conference rooms accessible to employees for privacy and meetings. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. Due to the time zone differences between our USA office and our Country Offices and location of other global staff, US based staff are expected to be available for early morning meetings starting at 6am. In addition, our Regional Africa based staff and Country office staff are expected to be available for late afternoon/evening meetings up to 6pm.

Compensation:

VillageReach has an established compensation structure that is based on the relevant market and internally transparent. The range for this position is $114,900 to $142,300. We hire people into the established range based on one’s experience and education and considering internal equity. We do not inquire about salary history.
