Functional responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Fleet Associate and the overall direction of the Fleet Manager , the driver provides reliable and safe driving services for the transport of authorized personnel. He/She has a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Functional Responsibilities

  1. Provides reliable and secure driving services by:

  • Driving vehicles safely for the transport of authorized personnel, materials and equipment.

  • Collecting and delivering mail, documents and other items.

  • Meeting official personnel at the airport and facilitating immigration and customs formalities as required.

2.Ensures proper use of vehicle through:
  • Accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs sheets

3.Ensures the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle by:
  • Checking oil, water, battery, brakes, tyres, etc.

  • Performing minor repairs and arranging for major repairs.

  • Ensuring that the vehicle is kept clean at all times.

4.Provide support as follows:
  • Driving Armored Mine Protected Vehicles, operating the backhoe loader and forklift, and providing relevant information on their maintenance.

  • Provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.

  • Assist the Fleet associate in stock take of vehicle spare parts and tools

  • If needed, provide advice to the mechanics team in conducting repairs and maintenance of UNMAS vehicles.

  • If needed, assist the Fleet department with advice on required parts and in obtaining quotations.

5.Compliance with Health, Safety, Social and Environment (HSSE) measures to prevent incidents/accidents by:
  • Ensuring that the assigned vehicle is Minimum Operating Security Standards (MOSS) compliant.

  • Wearing protective equipment such as safety boots, gloves, overall, when performing any manual work to avoid injuries.

  • Observing required measures when using vehicle tools such as jack, winch, and other tools.

  • Keeping the working environment clean from waste disposal.

  • Performing manual handling carefully by observing required measures to avoid injuries.

  • Ensuring that immediate steps are taken in case of involvement in an accident as required by UNOPS rules and regulations.

6.Ensures availability and usage where required, of all the recommended documents/supplies including:
  • Vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, waiver form, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary tools

  • Maintenance of accurate fuel logs.



Education/Experience/Language requirements

a. Education

  • Secondary School (A high School or equivalent) with two (2) years of relevant experience is required.

b. Work Experience

  • Relevant experience is defined as experience driving armored vehiclesin a private or public organization.
  • Experience in operating the backhoe loader, and forklift is required
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations is required.
  • Experience in basic vehicle maintenance is desired.
  • A valid South Sudanese driver’s license for operating manual transmission vehicles (with categories B and D1 as a minimum) is required. (Please attach a copy of your Driver’s License to your Application).

c. Language Requirements

  • Fluency in English (writing, reading & speaking) is required.
