UNOPS is an operational arm of the United Nations, helping a range of partners implement $1 billion worth of aid and development projects every year. UNOPS mission is to serve people in need by expanding the ability of the United Nations, governments and other partners to manage projects, infrastructure and procurement in a sustainable and efficient manner. They are a central resource for the UN system, providing project management, infrastructure and procurement services that range from managing the construction of roads in South Sudan to building shelters in Haiti and procuring educational computers in Argentina. They are able to work in the most hard to reach areas, despite considerable security and environmental challenges. They are an active member of United Nations country teams, working closely with other UN organizations to support the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals in a sustainable manner. All UNOPS work is in line with UN values and principles and promotes the concept of 'One UN'.   Services UNOPS customizes its services to individual partner needs, offering everything from one-time stand alone solutions to long-term project management.   Core services include: Project management; Procurement; Human resources; Financial management; and United Nations shared services.   Focus Areas UNOPS focus areas are demand-driven, therefore reviewed annually. The current focus is to provide implementation support services to partners in the following areas: Physical infrastructure Public order and security Census and elections Environment Health   Our goals During 2010-2013 UNOPS will manage for results contributing to four high-level goals: Rebuilding peace and stability after conflict; Early recovery of communities affected by natural disaster; The ability of people to develop local economies and obtain social services; and Environmental sustainability and adaption to climate change.   Within each goal, UNOPS targets three cross-cutting objectives: Gender equality and the empowerment of women, National capacity development, and Environmental sustainability.   The UNOPS Team UNOPS employs almost 6,000 personnel annually and on behalf of its partners creates thousands more work opportunities in local communities. With its headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark, a network of five regional offices and a further 20 operations and project centres, UNOPS oversees activities in more than 60 countries.   UNOPS Advantages UNOPS operates as a fully self-financed provider of implementation services. This prompts efficiency and financial discipline. As a not-for-profit organization it is motivated only to meet the expectations of partners. During periods of conflict or crisis UNOPS maintains a physical presence on the ground and promotes the ownership and engagement of governments and local communities. While partners may need a public profile for fundraising or advocacy, UNOPS does not and takes a low-key position as a service provider. UNOPS experience and proven track record in its focus areas allows partners to benefit from specialization, shared knowledge and economies of scale. UNOPS transparent, accountable management services meet the highest international standards. Partners are assured consistent performance to agreed standards of quality, timeliness and cost, and safeguards against implementation risk.
