Job Description

Work Location

  • Internship is designed to be in-person and full-time (35 hours per week), but arrangements can be adjusted based on the successful candidate’s request.

Expected Duration

  • 2–6 months

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Attend intergovernmental and UN inter-agency meetings in person and take notes (e.g., meetings of the General Assembly Committees and the Economic and Social Council).
  • Draft official documents, including background papers, analyses, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, and weekly reports for the Regional Commissions.
  • Conduct analysis and research on regional trends and regional dimensions of sustainable development.
  • Provide logistical assistance during conferences and meetings of the Regional Commissions.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications / Special Skills

  • Applicants must meet one of the following at the time of application:
    • Enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or higher).
    • Enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • No professional work experience is required.
  • Academic training, coursework, or skills should benefit the United Nations during the internship.
  • Applicants must provide proof of academic qualification (official certificate required at a later stage).
  • Candidates are required to cover costs for travel, visa, accommodation, health insurance, and other living expenses during the internship.

Languages

  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
  • Knowledge of an additional UN official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is an asset.

Additional Information / Intern-Specific Details

  • Interns are not financially remunerated.
  • Costs for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
  • Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship takes place may need appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
  • Successful candidates should discuss visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
