Chemonics International is seeking an employee relations manager to join the Human Resources Division (HRD). The employee relations manager is responsible for managing employee relations cases and investigations and is expected to demonstrate a clear understanding of legal compliance, applicable workplace laws, regulations, and Chemonics policies and procedures. Additional key components of this role include facilitating trainings on management and leadership topics, and coordination and oversight of staff engagement activities.

Responsibilities

  • Builds partnerships with all levels of employees from individuals to teams, from entry-level to executive leadership;
  • Coaches and advises staff on solving problems and implementing resolutions for performance management challenges; provides guidance on corrective actions, corporate policy interpretation, and other workplace human resources challenges;
  • Presents and trains on HR-related content and curriculum – either through formal corporate instructor-led trainings, small-group facilitated dialogues, or through one-on-one mentoring sessions;
  • Advises PMUs and project office leadership on employment actions for project-office staff to ensure legal compliance with applicable regulations, and provides guidance on Chemonics policies, procedures, and compliance.
  • Leads or contributes to corporate initiatives and projects such as the employee milestone recognition program, the employee assistance and resiliency program, the corporate donation program, the annual employee feedback survey, regular review and maintenance of myHR content, and the annual take our daughters and sons to work day.
  • Participates in and supports the documentation of investigations of workplace complaints and allegations such as discrimination, harassment, retaliation, hostile work environment, and policy violations.
  • Conducts exit interviews, analyzing trends or opportunities for feedback or improvement particularly in areas related to employee engagement.
  • Manages relationships with external clients, vendors, partners, and consultants as needed.
  • Ensures that any supervisee staff or mentees receive regular performance feedback, prompt resolution of problems, and the time and opportunity to grow professionally.
  • Consistently demonstrates and promotes Chemonics’ performance competencies, with special emphasis on building trust and serving others.
  • Actively supports or participates in new business activities and proposal teams, when appropriate.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of human resources or technically relevant work experience.
  • Prior employee relations experience and international development experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of applicable workplace laws, regulations, and employment trends.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills, discretion, and ability to manage confidential information.
  • Ability to form strong workplace relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, and lead presentations, training courses, and effective meetings.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of USAID and its operations preferred.
  • Experience living or working in developing countries preferred.
  • Language proficiency for geographic area assigned preferred.
