Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)
This role is within the British Embassy’s Economic Climate and Science (ECS) team. The successful candidate will support a wide portfolio of programmes and diplomatic initiatives related to the climate and nature agenda.
The role involves matrix management, reporting to multiple team leaders, and working across dynamic and evolving environments. It provides a unique opportunity to gain experience in diplomacy and international cooperation, while supporting programme and project management and delivering diplomatic initiatives. The position also involves collaboration with other Embassy teams (FCDO) and relevant UK government departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Events and Meetings:

- Support the organisation, planning, and delivery of official events, meetings, and visits.
- Prepare agendas, briefings, readouts, and manage logistics including quotes, catering, venues, and invitations.
- Communications:
- Support internal and external strategic communications of the ECS team.
- Update information on the team’s programmes, projects, and initiatives.
- Deliver creative ideas for communicating the results and impact of the UK’s work under the UK-COL Partnership for Sustainable Growth.
- Liaise with the Embassy communications team to promote calls for proposals, events, and visits through social media and traditional press.
- Research and Reporting:
- Conduct research on policies, recent developments, and stakeholders in areas such as climate, nature, technology, and innovation.
- Draft documents, reports, and briefings.
- Administration:
- Assist with administrative tasks including budget management, supplier coordination, and payments.
- Programme and Project Management:
- Support the management of a diverse portfolio of climate and nature programmes under the International Climate Finance (ICF) UK commitment.
- Engagement:
- Actively participate in wider Embassy activities, committees, and events.
- Perform other tasks as required to support the ECS team’s daily operations.
Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- Currently enrolled in undergraduate studies in International Relations, International Business, Political Science, Government and Public Affairs, or related fields (this internship is not a judiciary role).
- Minimum availability of 6 months before graduation.
- Good knowledge of national and international affairs.
- Interest in international cooperation, programme, and project management.
- Experience in event planning and delivery.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, particularly Word and Excel.
- Responsible, well-organised, and committed.
- Ability to interact and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and pay attention to detail.
- Fluency in both Spanish and English.
