Job Description

AIR is currently seeking an International Field Accountant. The position resides in the program finance unit and reports to the Program Finance Operations Senior Manager overseeing support to AIR’s International Division. The position plays a key role in confirming adherence to financial policies, procedures, and controls while providing accounting and financial analysis in reviewing QuickBooks financial data and supporting documentation from international field offices. The selected candidate will work alongside experienced financial professionals and have opportunities to pursue mutual, long-term career development goals.

Candidates hired for the position can work at any AIR DC, MD, VA office location and have the flexibility to telework.

The responsibilities for the position include:

  • Accounting and Financial Management
  • Responsible for the monthly QuickBooks financial data and supporting documentation review from international field offices.
  • Complete analysis of monthly international field office balance sheet transactions and reconciliation of the same.
  • Review international field office bank accounts, and statements and prepare reconciliations.
  • Review and monitor international field office P&L accounts, transaction activity, and reporting.
  • Upload and verify monthly QB costs into AIR’s Accounting system (Costpoint) after a detailed review.
  • Assist with facilitating the flow of financial information between the international field offices and AIR headquarters as well as the reconciliation of the same.
  • Provide day-to-day accounting support, cost allowability, and proper allocation of costs per contract requirements, ensuring compliance with federal regulations, AIR policies, and established accounting best practices.
  • Financial Reporting
  • Consolidate supporting documentation packages for monthly QuickBooks vouchers and submission to General Accounting ensuring documentation is accurate and complete.
  • Assist international field office financial staff with VAT, Transfer Pricing, Management Fees, and other intercompany recording and reporting requirements.
  • Business Partner Support
  • Guide international field office financial staff on a variety of accounting questions, matters, and requests.
  • Deliver a customer service-oriented approach to drive insights and assist with decision-making and problem-resolution strategies in a challenging environment.
  • Train international field office financial staff on the field accounting process and procedures and maintain detailed documentation and resource materials.

Education, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in finance, cost accounting, and budgeting.
  • In-depth experience in international field office financial management and working with complicated budgets including U.S. dollar to local currency exchange rate conversions.
  • Working knowledge of the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), Agency for International Development Acquisition Regulations (AIDAR), and various contract types, agreements, and grants.
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience, working in the areas of federal government, state & local, and commercial contracting is preferred but not required.
  • At least 5 years of experience with project financial management funded by USAID or other international funders is preferred but not required.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, detail-oriented, and forward-thinking.
  • Flexibility in managing multiple tasks, changing priorities, and able to respond effectively to time-sensitive inquiries and deadlines producing consistent, high-quality deliverables.
  • Skilled in training and knowledge sharing with others including business partners and team members.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the initiative to collaborate in a virtual, cross-functional team environment and continually demonstrating sensitivity to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • High level of proficiency in accounting systems (preferably Deltek Costpoint, QuickBooks, and Cognos).
  • Advanced MS Office skills with a heavy emphasis on Excel skills (advanced- VLOOKUP, pivot tables) and managing large data sets of information from various systems.

AIR’s Total Rewards Program, is designed to reward our staff competitively and motivate them to achieve our critical mission. This position offers an anticipated annual salary of $86,000 to $97,000. Salary offers are made based on internal equity within the institution and external equity with competitive markets. Please note this is the annual salary range for candidates that are based in the United States.
