Overview

The Financial Accountant – Nairobi will be responsible for the production of the company’s financial report and for the fulfilment of other obligations such as statutory reporting.

The Role
Reporting to the Finance and Operations Manager, the Financial Accountant will be responsible for running the accounting and financial activities for the organization.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of monthly financial reports covering balance sheet, profit and loss, internal management reports and cash flow statements.
  • Management of the general ledger including overseeing the monthly balance sheet, banking, and inter-company reconciliations.
  • Completion of the monthly accruals, journals, fixed assets, and depreciationschedules.
  • Weekly cash flow reporting.
  • Assist in the preparation of year end statutory accounts.
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting.
  • Ensuring accounting standards and policies are adhered to.
  • Facilitate the Annual External Audit process including annual statements and reports through to finalization within the statutory timeline and liaison with DT Global’s appointed auditors.
  • Tax administration in liaison with the regional tax advisor on filing of monthly VAT returns.
  • Supervision of Finance Intern.
  • Ensure the proper maintenance of accounting and other records according to statutory requirements.
  • Undertake other duties as directed by the Finance and Operations Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy, Finance, or related field.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience working in a similar role, with experience in establishing and maintaining effective financial procedures.
  • CPA qualified (preferred) or nearing CPA qualification.
  • Experience within the International development sector and/or experience in managing
  • Donor funding from clients such as FCDO, USAID & World Bank.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical aptitude, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Intermediate and Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills.
  • High level of interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a remote administration team as well as work autonomously.
  • Ability to use initiative and make decisions when completing tasks required, ensuring key roles are completed within required timeframes and when asking for more work.
  • Accurate numerical work and attention to detail.
  • Positive, constructive attitude and ability to integrate feedback.
