Job Description

Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in Ethiopia, Partnership with the African Union?

We offer:

A traineeship of up to 6 months within the Political, Press and Information (PPI) Section of the EU Delegation to the African Union to Ethiopia, African Union, starting in November, at the earliest 2025.

Support the PPI section in its communication and public diplomacy mission:

Main tasks:

  • Assist with research and political analysis of regional and continental situation, contributing to reports, briefings and communication products
  • Support engagement with press & other multipliers, including mapping, updating databases, drafting newsletters, press releases, social media posts and other products
  • Draft, edit and produce short videos, social media cards, factsheets, speeches, project fiches & other relevant materials and contributing to the organisation of events
  • Support in coordinating the Team Europe Communication Community and the Delegation’s Communication cluster, updating collaborative spaces, ensuring meetings’ minutes, assisting with an effective follow up and tracking of actions
  • Organization of and participation in internal and external events, prepare respective reports

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Taking into account the local health and security conditions, applicants currently residing in Ethiopia will only be considered.
  • Master’s degree in communication, journalism or similar OR on political science, international relations, economics, law or other social studies with proven experience in communication
  • Maximum 1 year of work experience
  • Fluency in English
  • A keen understanding of and interest in European Union and African Union’s politics, economics and governance
  • Excellent analytical, drafting and communication skills
  • Excellent capacity in editing and producing Audiovisual, social media and communication products and in using Canva or other edition and designing platforms
  • A hands-on, pro-active, reliable attitude, an openness to learning, and willingness to contribute with ideas.

Important information to read before applying

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship).

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travels, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidates are not able to present the required documents, their application will be rejected.

The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin.

Citizens from EU Member states:

  • must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation;
  • must hold a relevant entrance visa and / or temporary residence permit where applicable, based on the traineeship agreement, the duration of the traineeship, and in compliance with the local legislation.
