EnCompass LLC is seeking a Gender Equality and Inclusive Development Specialist I to support the Gender Equity and Inclusive Practices (GE&IP) team. The Gender Equality and Inclusive Development Specialist develops technical resources to strengthen gender equality and inclusive development integration; supports gender equality and inclusive development analyses and assessments; develops, implements, and evaluates activities that address gender equality, inclusive development, intersectional inequalities, female empowerment, male engagement, and gender-based violence prevention and response; and designs and facilitates gender-equality-and-inclusive-development-related training.

This is a full-time position located at the EnCompass principal office in Silver Spring, Maryland, and follows the EnCompass flexible hybrid work model with split time between telework and the office. This individual may also be expected to work from client sites in the Washington, DC, metro area, as needed.

Must be legally authorized to work in the US for any employer without sponsorship for a work visa or permit.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

Essential functions:

Technical Assistance and Training

  • Researches and drafts technical resources (e.g., toolkits, case studies) that provide guidance on gender integration, inclusive development, intersecting inequalities, male engagement, and gender-based violence prevention and response.
  • Contributes to gender equality and inclusive development analyses and other evaluations/assessments by reviewing documents, developing data collection instruments, conducting interviews, developing and analyzing surveys, conducting data analysis, and writing reports.
  • Contributes to the designs of face-to-face and virtual training on topics related to gender equality and inclusive development, using participatory, appreciative, and adult-learning approaches.

Project Management

  • Contributes to the development of work plans and budgets, prepares materials, liaises with consultants and clients, and performs other functions related to project management processes and implementation.
  • Builds and maintains high quality relationships and communications with current and new clients, prime contractors and subcontractors.

Business Development

  • Contributes to development of technical proposals for new opportunities related to gender integration and inclusive development.
  • Contributes to company business development through networking in professional circles and external events with prospective clients and the larger gender community of practice to promote our work in gender integration and inclusive development.

Other

  • Engages fully as a member of the EnCompass staff team, including participating in staff meetings and other EnCompass events, and providing administrative support to other team members as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Qualifications

Academic Qualifications

  • Minimum of a High School diploma and 10 years of experience, or an Associate’s degree and 8 years of experience, or a Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of experience; or Master’s degree or higher and 4 years of experience
  • Degree in gender studies, social sciences, international development, international affairs, or a related field if held

Experience and Skills

  • Experience in gender analysis, gender integration, and gender-based violence prevention and response in program design or implementation in international development contexts
  • Experience in the field of international development
  • Ability to think strategically and integrate diverse information from varied sources
  • Strong planning, organization, and strategic thinking skills
  • Ability to be flexible in adjusting to client needs and project requirements
  • Strong writing and synthesis skills; ability to convert technically complex concepts into plain language and to communicate to a variety of audiences with a high degree of cultural sensitivity
  • Proven track record of successful teamwork, good presentation/facilitation skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to deal sensitively in multi-cultural environments and build effective working relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Flexibility and ability to travel internationally or domestically for varying lengths of time
  • Fluent in the use of MS 365 applications, experience with Google Suite products a plus
  • Commitment to gender equality and inclusive development, both in programmatic work and with internal EnCompass team
  • Ability to work in an appreciative, strengths-based environment and use an appreciative approach in client and colleague interactions

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • Experience working with USAID, United Nations agencies, and/or other international organizations
  • Experience working on gender integration and/or GBV prevention and response within in economic empowerment, environment/climate, education, global health, conflict prevention, democracy and governance, or related programming
  • Experience using Zoom, Google Meet, WebEx, or other virtual platforms
  • Fluency in language(s) other than English
  • Experience living or working in more than one country

The pay range for this role allows for the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, certifications, and other business and organizational needs. At EnCompass, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $67,000–$79,500.
