The Gender Justice, Population and Inclusive Development cluster at UN-ESCWA supports Arab countries in achieving justice for all, focusing on gender equality, care systems, and poverty reduction.
Supports member countries in promoting women’s economic empowerment and improving labor force participation through policies on unpaid care work.
Implements national-level initiatives including care economy situation assessments, consultations, capacity building, and technical support for policy and legal reforms.
Supports poverty measurement and monitoring through money metric and multidimensional poverty indices, data collection, analysis, and maintenance of online policymaking tools.
The intern will assist ongoing research, policy advocacy, technical documentation, policy briefs, and blogs in English or Arabic under the supervision of project coordinators.
Intern Responsibilities:
Conduct research and desk reviews on gender equality, care systems, and poverty-related topics.
Perform analysis according to guidelines provided by ESCWA teams.
Draft inputs for various outputs following set outlines.
Update databases for money metric and multidimensional poverty analysis at national and global levels.
Collaborate directly with Gender Justice, Population and Inclusive Development cluster staff.
Internship Duration:
Minimum of two months full-time, with possible extension up to six months.
Qualifications/Special Skills
Education:
Must be enrolled in a graduate program (second university degree or higher) or in the final year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level), or have recently graduated with a university degree.
Requirements:
Computer literate in standard software applications.
Demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to UN ideals.
Ability to interact successfully with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, demonstrating tolerance and openness.
No prior work experience required.
Languages
Fluency in English and Arabic is required.
UN working languages include English and French; ESCWA additionally uses Arabic.

Interns are not financially remunerated.
Travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or sponsoring institution.
Interns must provide proof of valid medical insurance and a medical certificate of good health.
Flexible working arrangements may be possible but require written agreement.
Interns must commit to a minimum of two months full-time work and complete the internship within six months.
