Job Description

Work Location

  • Geneva, Switzerland

Expected Duration

  • 3 months, with the possibility of extension to 6 months.
  • This General Job Opening (GJO) is used to build a pool of qualified candidates and may fill internship vacancies between 1 December 2025 and 30 November 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), which is responsible for:
    • Strengthening international human rights mechanisms.
    • Enhancing equality and countering discrimination.
    • Combating impunity and strengthening accountability and the rule of law.
    • Integrating human rights in development and the economic sphere.
    • Widening the democratic space.
    • Early warning and protection of human rights in situations of conflict, violence, and insecurity.
  • Participate in internship assignments with the Rule of Law and Democracy Section (ROLDS) within the Rule of Law, Equality, and Non-Discrimination Branch (ROLENDB).

Academic Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
  • Must be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).

Experience

  • No prior working experience is required.
  • Training, education, advanced coursework, or skills should contribute to the United Nations during the internship.

Language

  • Fluency in English or French is required.
  • Knowledge of the other is an asset.
  • Knowledge of another UN official language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish) is advantageous.
