Role Title: National Volunteer – Gender, Inclusion, and Accountability
Country: Dhaka, Bangladesh (with field travel as required)
Duration: Till 31/03/2026, Possible extension till 31/03/2027
Role purpose: The National Volunteer – Gender, Inclusion, and Accountability will support the implementation of inclusive, gender-responsive, and accountable development practices within the ACTIVE Extension Project in Bangladesh. The role is dedicated to advancing the meaningful participation and leadership of women, young people, and persons with disabilities in community decision-making, while strengthening systems that ensure transparency, equity, and social justice in public service delivery. The volunteer will work to ensure that gender equality and social inclusion are not treated as standalone issues, but are integrated into all areas of the project—such as sexual and reproductive health and rights, climate resilience, livelihoods, disaster risk reduction, and child protection. This includes supporting awareness campaigns, facilitating inclusive community engagement processes, strengthening safeguarding mechanisms, and promoting the use of complaint and feedback systems that are accessible to all, especially those who are often excluded. By working closely with community platforms, local institutions, and youth-led initiatives, the volunteer will help amplify marginalized voices, promote accountability between citizens and service providers, and foster inclusive governance.
Safeguarding level: Level 3: This post will have regular, direct and unsupervised access to children and vulnerable adults either face to face or online or the post will have supervisory responsibility for people who have direct unsupervised access to children or post will have accountability at organisational level to ensure safeguarding policy is in place and implemented at all levels. A criminal background check (Enhance DBS check for UK or equivalent highest level of Police check) will be obtained for post holder at this level prior to their start date.

All volunteers have an allowance paid in local currency. The allowance meets reasonable living expenses in country, but will not be enough to send money home.
VSO works with some of the poorest communities in the world which means accommodation varies and will be basic.
Note: This is a national volunteer role open to Bangladeshi nationals and subject to funding approval.
