Functional responsibilities
Summary of Key Functions: - Project Delivery and Performance
- Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement

1) Project Delivery and Performance: - Deliver GIS mapping capabilities and intuitive data visualizations (both static and interactive) in accordance with UNOPS established standards;
- Create and produce digital maps, graphics, and geospatial data outputs in standardized formats such as shapefiles, geographic databases and other formats usable in GIS and spatial analysis;
- Identify, organise and maintain relevant geospatial data of varied standards and formats including but not limited to Earth observation satellites, probabilistic models and primary data;
- Conduct spatial data analysis on climate, livelihoods, food security, poverty and nutrition according to cartographic standards;
- Extract key features from remote sensing products and analyse them using GIS and image processing tools, standardizing data from various sources into unified database formats;
- Support initiatives by providing relevant maps, visual products, and dashboards as needed.
2. Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement: - Collaborate with various team members to understand requirements, share geospatial content, and produce multi-disciplinary analyses to enhance the understanding of poverty, understand vulnerability better;
- Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with various partners.
3. Monitoring and Reporting: - Develop and continuously update a geo-referenced database in compliance with UNOPS’ corporate spatial data infrastructure standards;
- Prepare a range of information products (reports, infographics,Presentations, dashboards etc) from GIS spatial analysis as required.
4. Capacity Strengthening, Knowledge Sharing and Innovation: - Responsible for creating, maintaining countrywide knowledge and capacity transfer in GIS and related tools;
- Facilitate knowledge sharing within internal teams and across partners ensuring the integration of best practices and lessons learned in food security, nutrition, climate and livelihoods analysis;
- Dissemination of GIS analysis and mapping products.
Education/Experience/Language requirements
Education: - An advance university degree (Master’s Degree) in GIS, Geography, Geomatics or a related field is required.
- A first level university degree (Bachelor’s Degree), preferably in the above professional fields, with two (2) additional years ofrelevant experience, could be considered in lieu of the Master’s Degree.
Experience: - A minimum of two (2) years of experience in GIS, data analysis and remote sensing is required.
- Extensive knowledge of geospatial analysis, cartography, cartographic and GIS concepts, database management, and production/development of products in easy-to-read, actionable formats for decision making is required.
- Experience with ESRI ArcGIS pro/ desktop, ArcGIS Online and Enterprise, QGIS and remote sensing software for satellite image processing is required.
- Experience in the usage of computers and office softwarepackages (e.g. MS Office newer versions, Google SuiteApplications) is required.
- Advanced knowledge of satellite image processing and land dynamics classification/assessment is desirable.
- Knowledge of information management and data visualization is an advantage.
- Experience in working in development or humanitarian projects is highly desirable.
- Experience working with the UN or international organizations is highly desirable.
Language Requirement: - Fluency in English is required.
