Job Description

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is a multilateral development bank whose mission is financing Infrastructure for Tomorrow in Asia and beyond—infrastructure with sustainability at its core. We began operations in Beijing in 2016 and have since grown to 111 approved members worldwide. We are capitalized at USD100 billion and AAA-rated by the major international credit rating agencies. Collaborating with partners, AIIB meets clients’ needs by unlocking new capital and investing in infrastructure that is green, technology-enabled, and promotes regional connectivity.

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) Research team is exploring innovative approaches to measure the development impact of infrastructure projects using geospatial data. This project aims to leverage satellite imagery and other geospatial datasets to assess changes in welfare and economic activity before and after project implementation. Indicators may include roof type of structures, night-time lights, agricultural output, and other creative measures developed during the project. The analysis will contribute to AIIB’s broader research agenda on infrastructure and development impact.

Responsibilities:
  • Process and analyse large geospatial datasets relevant to AIIB project sites.
  • Conduct geospatial analysis using machine learning and advanced statistical techniques.
  • Develop indicators of welfare and economic activity from satellite imagery and other sources.
  • Compare pre- and post-project conditions to assess development impact.
  • Document methodology and produce visualizations (maps, charts) for research outputs.
  • Contribute to drafting a research note or report summarizing findings and innovative approaches.
Requirements:
  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s/MBA or PhD program, preferably in Geospatial Analysis, Data Science, Economics, or related fields.
  • Proven experience in at least two geospatial data analysis projects.
  • Strong skills in handling large geospatial datasets and applying machine learning techniques.
  • Familiarity with satellite imagery and indicators such as night lights and agricultural productivity.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to present technical findings clearly.
  • Great team player with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Fluent in oral and written English.

AIIB is committed to diversity, transparency, and inclusion. We believe our strength comes from having a team with the right diverse skills, experiences, and abilities selected through a merit-based competitive process. We actively encourage applications from people from both within and outside AIIB members, regardless of nationality, religion, gender, race, disability, or sexual orientation.

Join in AIIB’s mission to promote sustainable infrastructure investments and to improve social and economic outcomes in Asia and beyond.

Previous experience and qualifications will determine the grade and job title at which successful applicants will enter AIIB.
