SUMMARY:
The American Red Cross (ARC) International Services Department (ISD) seeks to prevent and alleviate human suffering around the world by responding to disasters, building safer, more resilient communities, and educating future humanitarians. With programs and partners in 70 countries, the American Red Cross working to strengthen the global Red Cross Red Crescent Network in order to deliver critical assistance to some of the most vulnerable communities in the world, reaching 100 million people annually.
The American Red Cross is looking for a full-time GIS Analyst to support long-term programs and disaster response for the International Services team. Specifically, this position will work as part of dynamic team of humanitarian geospatial and information management professionals to create maps and infographics, and engage, plan, and conduct programming with field staff in Africa and Haiti. The position will report to the GIS Team lead, receiving additional direction from the Surge Information Management Systems Lead during disaster response operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Create maps using GIS applications including QGIS, ArcGIS, and Adobe Creative Suite.

Compile geographic data from a variety of sources such as field observation, mobile data collection, and satellite imagery.

Conduct research to locate and obtain existing databases of humanitarian needs and partner national society operations.

Help gather, fact check, analyze and integrate programmatic and spatial data from staff and determine how the information can be organized and displayed using GIS.

Establish information management workflows and business processes that integrate with NHQ business practices and translate to standardized reporting products for reporting officer.

Identify and apply for applicable grants and awards for new projects and programs.

Support American Red Cross and International Red Cross during disaster response operations.

Work closely with the American Red Cross Africa and Haiti delegations.
QUALIFICATIONS:

BS or MS in geography, computer science, GIS or related field.

3 years of experience as a GIS Analyst or equivalent.

Extensive experience using GIS applications to produce static and web maps.

Extensive experience with Adobe Illustrator to create visually informative and appealing maps and infographics.

Experience conducting research to locate and obtain existing spatial and non-spatial data.

Strong data management skills and experience using Excel and/or SQL.

Practical knowledge of field-based survey design, data collection and management using mobile data collection technology.

Experience working on international development or humanitarian response projects, preferably with field experience.

Ability to work as an active team member but independently, with limited guidance.

Experience with the Red Cross network and international humanitarian work is helpful.

French language skills preferred.
