Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. UN-Habitat is the focal point for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system. The internship position supports the Land, Housing and Shelter Section (LHSS) in the Urban Practices Branch within the Global Solutions Division.

Under the supervision of the Associate Programme Management Officer, the intern will:

  • Design and visually format knowledge products, including policy briefs, data analysis, reports, case studies, and human-interest stories.
  • Create infographics and visual assets to communicate complex data and key messages in engaging formats.
  • Design communication materials such as flyers, cards, roll-ups, social media graphics, and short videos.
  • Source relevant images for internal and external communication needs.
  • Support the design and implementation of advocacy campaigns related to land and housing.
  • Assist in the development and visual design of the Housing Knowledge Platform, Arab Land Initiative, and Global Land Tool Network websites.
  • Support the organization and execution of workshops, webinars, and training sessions.
  • Attend meetings/events and prepare summaries or reports as needed.
  • Perform other related tasks to support the Section’s work plan and objectives.

Qualifications / Special Skills
Applicants must meet one of the following at the time of application:

  • Enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or higher).
  • Enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level).
  • Have graduated with a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree.

Additional requirements:

  • Computer literate in standard software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office).
  • Keen interest in the work of the UN and personal commitment to the UN Charter.
  • Ability to interact with individuals of diverse backgrounds and beliefs.

Preferred Fields of Study

  • Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Visual Arts, Fine Arts, Digital Media, Architecture, or related fields.

Languages

  • Fluency in English (oral and written) is required.
  • Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.

Additional Information

  • If you have previous UN internship experience, indicate the entity and dates.
  • Experience in graphic design and communications is desirable.

  • Interns are responsible for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses.
  • Non-residents may require a visa and/or work authorization.
