Gender Mainstreaming Afghanistan (funded by GTZ)
Context: The Afghan government has undertaken various efforts in recent years to strengthen the role of women in society as well as to improve their participation in political and economic life. Gender equality is established in the Afghan constitution. The need for gender competence on each level such as local as well as state level has risen. However, there is a lack of expertise and coordinating mechanisms. In addition, the resistance of conservative powers and the heightened security situation jeopardise the equal participation of women.
Programme objective: Selected relevant ministries, state institutions as well as NGOs incorporate a gender perspective when implementing national and sectoral policies and thus strengthen gender equality in political and economic life.
