Gender Mainstreaming Afghanistan (funded by GTZ)

Context: The Afghan government has undertaken various efforts in recent years to strengthen the role of women in society as well as to improve their participation in political and economic life. Gender equality is established in the Afghan constitution. The need for gender competence on each level such as local as well as state level has risen. However, there is a lack of expertise and coordinating mechanisms. In addition, the resistance of conservative powers and the heightened security situation jeopardise the equal participation of women.

Programme objective: Selected relevant ministries, state institutions as well as NGOs incorporate a gender perspective when implementing national and sectoral policies and thus strengthen gender equality in political and economic life.

Tentative fields of experience (at least three):

  • Ample experience in the field of Gender Mainstreaming/women’s rights
  • Project managment experience
  • Experience with networking facilitiation between the government agencies and NGOs
  • Experience in training female entrepreneurs (empowerment)
  • Experience in the field of food security (micro-level), e.g. working with small farmers (associations, NGO etc.)
  • Training experience for judiciary personnel (on gender issues)
  • Experience in the elaboration and disemmination of information on human rights (esp. in regard to women, children)
  • Experience in organising and leading information sessions and round tables
  • Experience in public relations
  • Experience in training journalists on gender sensitive reporting
  • Experience with capacity development (advisory and training) of government bodies
  • Experience in Islamic countries
