Corporate Affairs systematically organises governance processes, coordinates coherent policy and internal audit, and is responsible for external marketing and communications.

The Global Head of Corporate Affairs leads a team of approximately ten skilled professionals with experience in different corporate functions.

The support to corporate governance bodies includes organisation of decision-making processes and internal corporate communications, narrative corporate annual planning and reporting, and legal advice. The policy and internal audit function includes coordinating policy development and policy maintenance at global and country level, delivering internal process audits and carrying out control frameworks and organisational assessments. External communications is mainly focused on current and potential future donors and partners. This function requires a refresh including a strengthened narrative on direct results, systems change and SNV’s unique selling points.

The Head is the owner of the above functions and ensures these are in line with SNV’s Strategic Plan. A new policy advisor with a legal background will be recruited to complement the team. The focus of the Head will thus be in coordinating decision-making processes, overseeing internal corporate communications and external marketing communication, and maintaining end responsibility for all Corporate Affairs activities.

The Head is a sparring partner for the Managing Board and will frequently participate in MB meetings. (S)he is a colleague amongst equals with the other Heads of Global Units (Finance, HR, Business Development, ICT, Agriculture, Energy and WASH).

Responsibilities

  • Organise, recruit, appraise, develop and motivate staff of own team, recruit consultants where applicable, as well as develop and innovate work methods and procedures within the available budgets and HR policies.
  • Ensure the development, planning, review and execution of the SNV external communication strategy to position SNV as a trusted development partner and to grow SNV’s business. Provides leadership on consistency and correct usage of messaging by all SNV employees, sets and ensures service levels of the global communication staff to the rest of the organisation.
  • Systematically organise decision-making processes of corporate governing bodies and assure timely staff participation in these processes. Communication of decisions and follow up actions towards the Extended Management Team (Heads of Units and Country Directors) and relevant units in SNV. This includes the coordination of narrative planning and reporting (reporting process ownership is done in a dual role with Head of Finance).
  • Ensure the intranet is maintained as a central repository of information and assure basic internal trainings are in place.
  • Ensure that the Managing Board and Country Directors receive legal advice on risks and opportunities concerning corporate legal issues, including registration and tax issues, in the countries SNV operates in.
  • Serve as the “owner” of the SNV Policy house, with the focus limited to consistency, integration and coherence of all policies and procedures. Corporate Affairs maintains and communicates policy coherence whereas ownership and accountability of individual policies is with the relevant global heads.
  • Supervise the internal audit function to assure the effective operating of governance, policy and internal control processes. Ensure corporate compliance processes and externally demanded organisational assessments are carried out in a timely manner.

Qualifications

  • A seasoned professional with a master’s degree in a relevant discipline such as public management, MBA, communications, or international development.
  • Proven track record with over 12 years in Corporate Affairs leadership positions of which at least 7 years in managing professional teams in a culturally diverse, international setting.
  • Solid management experience in external and internal communications.
  • Solid experience in complex governance and planning processes.
  • Knowledge of, and reliable judgment on, corporate compliance, internal control and audit processes.
  • Experience in project organisations with multiple financing sources is desirable.
  • Thorough understanding and experience in the sector of international development cooperation and/or international consultancy is desirable
  • Clear communicator including excellent writing skills. Fluent in English; Dutch and/or French is an advantage.
  • A strong, insightful and influential leader who can drive processes in a decentralised, matrix environment.
  • Ability to operate at different levels and to translate strategy into action. Willing to provide hands-on support when needed.
  • Strong people skills as implementation will often be via non-hierarchical channels.
  • Energetic, highly motivated, with an enquiring mind and passion for excellence and innovation in pursuit of business growth and success.
  • High integrity and openness combined with commitment to good governance.
  • Willingness to incidentally travel.

Currently, an interim head is establishing the new unit and brings the staff concerned together.
