Internship Programme Overview
The Internship Programme attracts talented students and recent graduates who have an interest in, or whose studies cover, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities.
Eligibility:
- Age between 20 and 36 years.
- Less than two years of relevant working experience.
- Either enrolled in the final year of a first university degree (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or graduated within the last 12 months.
- Candidates may also:

- Hold a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations or require an internship to complete their studies.
- Be sponsored by governmental, non-governmental institutions, or academia to work in areas relevant to both IOM and the sponsor.
Responsibilities
Supervision:
The intern will work under the general administrative supervision of the Chief of Mission (CoM), overall guidance of the Head of Human Resources, and direct supervision of the Senior HR Associate in Germany.
Learning Objectives and Tasks:
Administrative Support Across the Employee Lifecycle:
- Preparation of employee certificates.
- Drafting reference letters.
- Maintenance and compliance of personnel files.
- Archiving HR documentation.
Time and Attendance Administration:
- Daily absence registration and tracking.
- Preparation and administration of extended leaves (e.g., parental leave, special leave).
Recruitment Administration:
- Support with vacancy advertisements and pre-screening of applications.
- Assistance with compliance and background checks.
- Scheduling of interviews and assessments.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or CoM.
Qualifications
Education:
- Student or recent graduate, preferably in Human Resources, Psychology, Social or Political Sciences, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Skills:
- Fluency in English and German (written and spoken).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word).
- Prior experience in Human Resources or related administrative work is an asset.
- Interest in international organizations and migration-related issues.
Languages:
- Very good knowledge of German (spoken and written).
- Fluency in English.
- Knowledge of another official IOM language (French or Spanish) is an advantage.
Language proficiency will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
