Job Description – Systems Architect / Data Engineer

Essential Tasks

Systems Architecture

  • Design, build, and manage efficient data pipelines and supporting architectures to ingest, store, retrieve, and analyze data across multiple systems.
  • Align architecture, data models, security, and performance with organizational priorities and departmental roadmaps; maintain the overall data warehouse strategy.
  • Translate business requirements into high-performance architectures, pipeline designs, and technical solutions.
  • Implement and maintain data integration processes to ensure accurate and efficient information flow across multiple business systems.
  • Research and implement solutions, including third-party integrations, to enhance the enterprise architecture ecosystem.

Systems Governance and Planning

  • Continuously monitor and optimize existing integrations and configurations; troubleshoot and improve efficiency and reliability as needed.
  • Define and implement data governance policies and best practices to ensure data quality, integrity, and security.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including process models, specifications, and diagrams for the data warehouse and system integrations.
  • Coordinate workstreams effectively, engaging with multiple internal project teams and external contractors.
  • Drive the development lifecycle to deploy system changes, including effort assessments, technical development, user testing, and data migration.

Required Qualifications

  • 5–7 years of experience in a related role.
  • Snowflake SnoPro Core Certification is required.
  • Minimum 3 years building new schemas and data warehouses using Snowflake, Snowpark, and SnowDDL.
  • Minimum 3 years using data management and integration tools such as Workato.
  • Significant experience with data modeling structures, data warehousing techniques, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).
  • Experience gathering and documenting ETL/ELT requirements.
  • Experience building and managing ETL/ELT pipelines using tools such as dbt, Airflow, and Fivetran.
  • Proficient with version control systems (Git/GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket) and documenting code for collaboration and maintainability.
  • Experience with CI/CD frameworks and tools.
  • Experience implementing large, multi-system projects.
  • Strong understanding of data management principles.
  • Fluent in SQL and Python.
  • Ability to assess technical project effort and complexity to determine realistic roadmaps.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a deadline-driven environment and manage shifting priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Interest in climate change and commitment to ClimateWorks’ mission, values, and the strategic use of data.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
  • Willingness to travel 3–4 times per year for in-person collaboration if located outside the San Francisco Bay Area.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CRM, ERP, or grants management systems architecture and APIs (e.g., Salesforce).
  • Experience building schemas and models for Tableau.
  • Knowledge of data governance, data quality, and compliance frameworks.
  • Experience with non-profit operations and fundraising processes.
