Organizational Context

  • The Office of the Special Coordinator on Improving the United Nations Response to Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (OSCSEA) supports the Secretary-General and UN leadership in strengthening responses to sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) across peacekeeping, humanitarian, development, and human rights sectors.
  • OSCSEA works with UN offices, departments, funds, programmes, and other implementing partners to enhance accountability, transparency, and strategic decision-making regarding SEA.

Responsibilities
Under the supervision of an OSCSEA staff member, the intern will:

  • Clean and organize raw data related to SEA.
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative data analysis, including trend analysis, to support reporting, prevention, and response strategies.
  • Develop and improve dashboards and data visualizations using Power BI, Verint, Excel, and other web-based tools.
  • Draft visual storytelling materials, infographics, and presentations to support decision-making, advocacy, and communication strategies.
  • Support ongoing projects related to system-wide SEA data coordination and knowledge sharing.
  • Analyze gaps in the iReport system and collate recommendations from users to enhance data collection and reporting.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions to improve internal data workflows and propose innovative solutions for data use.
  • Support analysis, dissemination, and presentation of results from the annual system-wide survey on PSEA.
  • Provide general office support, including drafting and processing correspondence and other communications.
  • Undertake other responsibilities as required.

Qualifications / Special Skills

  • Must meet one of the following:
    • Enrolled in, or completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or higher)
    • Enrolled in, or completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level)
  • No prior work experience is required; academic training, coursework, or skills should contribute to the United Nations’ work.
  • Computer literacy in standard software applications is required.
  • Demonstrated interest in the work of the UN and commitment to its ideals.
  • Ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, demonstrating tolerance and understanding of differing opinions.

Languages

  • Fluency in English is required
  • Knowledge of French is desirable
  • Knowledge of another UN language is an advantage

Additional Information

  • Visa and work authorization requirements: Interns in the USA who are not citizens, permanent residents, or on another non-immigrant status (e.g., F1 visa) must obtain a G4 visa.
  • Interns are responsible for ensuring valid visas and, if required, employment authorization (CPT/OPT).

Intern-Specific Information

  • Interns are not financially remunerated by the UN.
  • Costs for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or sponsoring institutions.
  • Non-citizens or non-permanent residents may require appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
