About our organization within the international scope

These are exciting times in the world of development finance. The world population is growing and so are many economies in the world, but many socio-economic and environmental realities do not make global economic development easy. At FMO, we believe in a world where, in 2050, more than nine billion people live well and within the means of the planet’s resources. The enduring effects of the COVID pandemic create an enormous additional challenge to our and the global development ambitions.

FMO’s strategy is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which help us focus on creating development impact with our activities. We particularly focus on SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), 10 (Reducing Inequalities) and 13 (Climate Action). At the Strategy Department we are looking for an intern to help us with our on-going projects, most of which focus on understanding and improving FMO’s business activities.

  • Promote effective knowledge sharing across teams and departments
  • Facilitate collaboration through accessible and well-structured knowledge
  • Contribute to the implementation of FMO’s strategic goals through knowledge-driven practices

Within Evaluations at FMO, we work to:

  • Contribute to FMO’s knowledge on development impact by conducting and commissioning evaluations
  • Be accountable to our stakeholders
  • Share lessons learned internally and externally

The Department

The Strategy Department has strategy at its core, supporting the Managing Board and FMO leadership on key topics throughout the “strategy cycle”. The main activities of the department consist of:

  • Strategic context and trend analysis
  • Responsibility for and facilitation of strategy setting, thought leadership and policy advice on FMO’s SDG / development impact agenda, annual business planning and change project selection and monitoring
  • Key support for making FMO a “learning organization” via performance monitoring and follow-up by way of evaluations and knowledge management

The Strategy department plays a crucial role in supporting and facilitating the rest of the organization with achieving FMO’s ambitious goals. The department consists of 4 teams being: Strategic Planning; Sustainability Strategy & Policy; Portfolio Management Office; and Evaluations & Knowledge Management, with in total nearly 30 colleagues.
