Job Description

Educational level: Bachelor degree (HBO)

Deadline: February 22, 2026

Your role

As an Internal Communications intern within the Corporate Stakeholder Engagement Department, you will have broad exposure to the different sides of communication, such as internal and external communication, branding & storytelling, blogging, corporate vlogging, (internal) social media and events. While this requires you to be versatile and flexible, it also provides you with a great opportunity to see the full scope of communication within FMO.

In your role, you will have the freedom to specify responsibilities to match your professional development requirements and interests. You are involved in specific projects and will be responsible for handling or supporting incoming requests. As these are quite frequent, it is important to have good time management and communication skills.

As an intern, you will:

  • Help manage and update FMO’s internal channels (intranet, narrowcasting, and Viva Engage).
  • Keep our communication offerings, templates, and content libraries up to date.
  • Manage shared departmental mailboxes and direct messages appropriately.
  • Act as a second pair of eyes in reviews, following the four eyes principle, and check consistency and the use of FMO’s house style and writing guide.
  • Assist in creating slides and materials for online and in person All Staff meetings and provide support in the studio or on site.
  • Assist in communications for ongoing projects, especially Values in Action, our multiyear culture program.
  • Help maintain FMO’s photo libraries, ensuring they are current and GDPR compliant.
  • Analyze intranet performance using HarePoint and suggest improvements.
  • Experiment with the use of AI and Copilot in internal communications, creating effective prompts and agents to help make internal communications more efficient, effective, and consistent with FMO’s strategy, house style, and narrative.
  • Support the organization of internal events and studio activities, including coordinating logistics, assisting during recordings or live sessions, and helping ensure smooth execution.

The team

The Corporate Stakeholder Engagement department helps to promote and protect FMO’s brand and reputation as well as orchestrate engagement with our stakeholders. We aim to build trust and brand resilience by telling FMO’s story and communicating its values and results to inspire like-minded organizations to partner with us on our journey to enable entrepreneurs to build inclusive and sustainable prosperity.

The Corporate Stakeholder Engagement department consists of two teams—Stakeholder Engagement and Communication & Creation—with this internship positioned in the Communication & Creation team.

The Comms & Creation team brings focus, clarity, and creativity to FMO’s internal communication channels. We ensure consistent, high-quality messaging that helps colleagues understand our strategy and Business Plan priorities. Guided by analytics and insights, we continuously refine our channels to strengthen impact and support informed decision making. We craft compelling narratives, select the most effective formats and channels, and connect stories across departments. We work in a cocreation mindset with intranet editors from each department to build a functional, user-friendly intranet. The Comms & Creation team also runs FMO’s studio and supports the production of videos, podcasts, and internal events, while coordinating the organization and programming of leadership Alignment Days.

Across all activities, we drive continuous improvement and support the preparation, publication, and distribution of internal updates that keep the organization aligned and engaged.

Your background

  • You are a third- or fourth-year HBO or Research University student, preferably studying communications, journalism, or a field related to FMO’s activities (such as International Studies, European Studies, or Development Studies), with a strong affinity for communications.
  • You have excellent (native or near native) verbal and written English skills.
  • You plan your work effectively, manage expectations clearly, and feel comfortable working independently.
  • You understand that asking questions, acknowledging mistakes, and learning from them are important parts of developing your skills.
  • You have high quality standards and a sharp eye for detail, design, video, and layout.
  • You are creative and digitally savvy, follow trends on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat, to be able to explore how to translate these into concepts for FMO’s internal online communities.
  • You are familiar with tools such as PowerPoint, Canva, and video editing software.
  • You are curious about the potential of AI and Copilot in communication work and feel comfortable experimenting with prompts and agents.
  • You are comfortable working with data and analytics, and enjoy using insights to improve.
  • You have a strong affinity with FMO’s values and mission.
  • You are available for at least 4 months, 4–5 days per week.

Good to know

The internship is suitable for an HBO or Research University bachelor student in the last stages of his/her studies, and the internship should be a requirement for his or her study (ECTS-eligible). The remuneration is EUR 750 net a month (based on 40 hours) and travel allowance in case you do not have a student mobility card (OV jaarkaart).

  • For this position, only candidates residing and studying in the Netherlands will be considered.
  • Applications without a CV or cover letter will not be taken into consideration.
  • Standard cover letters written with AI will also not be considered
