Job Description

The WFP Kenya Country Office (KCO) implements an Internship Programme designed to deepen understanding of the United Nations by providing practical, hands-on experience within the World Food Programme. The programme offers graduate students an opportunity to gain professional exposure in their respective fields of study and specialization, both within programme areas and across various offices in the country.

The Country Office is now seeking to select Interns for Cohort 3, 2026, for an eight-month programme with opportunities in both Field Offices and the Nairobi Office. For Field Office placements, priority will be given to candidates from the surrounding local communities to enhance impact.

Applicants must be Kenyan nationals, recent graduates, and residents of Kenya. Candidates placed in field locations will be responsible for arranging their own accommodation near the respective duty stations. Proficiency in the local language is required for this role to ensure effective communication with stakeholders.

Intern - Programme, Dadaab

The intern will provide essential programmatic and operational support to the WFP Dadaab field office.They will assist in the implementation of Differentiated Assistance Approaches, including innovative cash-based transfers and resilience-building initiatives designed to integrate refugee and host communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field missions to WFP activity sites to monitor Programme implementation, the management and use of food/cash transfer modalities and resilience building assistance, the targeting and the respect of WFP principles by the CPs.
  • Contribute to monitoring reports on any WFP Programme related issues in the field, including food management in the field, beneficiaries’ problems and conduct of CPs in line with WFP guidelines.
  • Support the Programme team in reviewing monthly Cooperating Partners (CP) reports and capturing them in COMET
  • Where rights are granted, assist in processing data reconciliation in COMET with LESS.
  • Contribute to writing of monthly consolidated beneficiaries and achievement reports.
  • Assist in receiving and registering invoices and Cooperating Partners reports for tracking purposes.
  • Provide weekly status updates on CP invoices received, registered and processed for payment.
  • Take minutes of various Programme meetings.
  • Raise awareness among beneficiaries of existing Complaints and Feedback Mechanisms for all WFP activities in Dadaab.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records and files within the area of work.
  • Perform any other duties as required.

Expected Outcomes:

  • Understanding of international development and humanitarian principles including WFP’s operations with focus on refugee relief, transition and self-reliance/resilience building programming.
  • Obtained skills in planning, coordination, partnering that include multiple internal and external stakeholders and reporting humanitarian and development work.
  • Gained results-based skills required for international humanitarian and development operations

Qualifications Required:

Education: A recent graduate (within the last 6 months) with a Bachelors in International Relations, Social Sciences, Agriculture, Nutrition, Economics, Statistics or another related field.

Language: Fluency in oral and written English and local language.

Computer literacy: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).

Duration of Internship: 8 months
