Duties and Responsibilities
This internship is located in the Triangular Partnership Programme (TPP) within the Support Partnerships Service (SPS), Division for Special Activities (DSA), Department of Operational Support (DOS), at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Department context:
DOS provides operational advisory services to operating entities across the Secretariat, including other departments, offices-away-from headquarters, field missions, and regional commissions.
DSA oversees specialized or cross-cutting operational capacities, supporting start-up, surge, and transition requirements. It also exercises authority where entities lack capacity or have had authority temporarily withdrawn.
SPS coordinates bilateral and trilateral partnerships with regional organizations, governments, and UN actors to provide or receive operational support.
TPP, launched at the September 2014 Summit on UN Peacekeeping, enhances enabling capabilities for peacekeeping by supporting partnerships between the UN, Member States, and Troop-Contributing Countries (TCCs).
Internship terms:
- Reports to the Programme Officer.
- Duration: up to six months (minimum three months depending on programme needs).
- Location: In-person in New York; remote work may be permitted for a limited period under exceptional circumstances.
- Interns contribute directly to TPP/SPS/DSA projects, supporting DOS operations and learning about UN systems.
Responsibilities
Under the guidance of TPP professional staff, the intern will support information management, meetings, reporting, coordination, and project work. Tasks may include:
Knowledge Management
- Organize substantive materials for TPP engagements.
- Collect and consolidate information on TPP training development and outcomes.
- Prepare briefing notes on TPP activities.
- Design and develop communication products for high-level engagement.
- Maintain records of meetings, action items, and background materials.
Planning and Coordination
- Support planning and coordination of TPP engineering and medical trainings in multiple locations.
- Assist in organizing and coordinating TPP meetings.
- Prepare background documents, monitor sessions, and take notes.
- Provide additional coordination support as required.
Research Support
- Conduct background research to support TPP’s high-level engagements.
- Undertake other research tasks as needed.
Operations and Administrative Support
- Draft and edit correspondence.
- Assist in day-to-day team management and activities.
- Prepare datasets, data models, and surveys.
- Support public relations activities (e.g., social media, fact sheets, articles).
- Manage scheduling and search for venues for meetings with stakeholders.
- Perform other ad hoc tasks as assigned.
Qualifications / Special Skills
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
Academic requirements
- Enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or higher), or
- Enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree (minimum Bachelor’s or equivalent).
- Field of study must be closely related to the internship.
Technical skills
- Good knowledge of MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Canva is desirable (please provide examples).
- Ability to draft news articles and social media posts is desirable (please provide examples).

Languages
Required: Fluency in spoken and written English.
Desirable: Knowledge of an additional official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish).
