Duties and Responsibilities
Office Background
The United Nations Department of Operational Support (DOS) provides rapid, efficient, and responsible support services to UN Secretariat entities, including peace operations, departments, and offices.
Core services include supply chain management, operational HR management, health-care management, capacity building and training, support for uniformed capabilities, ICT support, and UNHQ facility management.
The Office of the Under-Secretary-General of Operational Support provides advisory, executive, and management support to DOS leadership.
The internship is located in the Performance and Analytics Section (PAS) of OUSG-DOS, covering strategy, planning, performance, analytics, and innovation.
Interns work as full members of PAS and undertake projects with significant organizational impact.
Office Duties
Gather and analyze data from public and internal sources, supporting data preparation, modeling, and surveys.
Perform statistical and/or mathematical programming to interpret gathered data.
Provide technical support for existing reports, dashboards, or other tools.
Support data cleaning from primary or secondary sources and maintain databases/data systems.
Translate data results into written reports and visualizations/presentations for stakeholders and leadership.
Support data mining, optimization, metrics development, and predictive analysis.
Contribute to developing innovative approaches and methods for new data products.
Perform other duties as required.
Note: PAS strongly favors interns able to work in-person at NYHQ.

Qualifications / Special Skills
Enrolled in or completed a graduate program (second university degree or higher); OR
Enrolled in or completed the final academic year of a first university degree (minimum bachelor’s degree).
Open to broad educational backgrounds: Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, Operations Research, Engineering, Mathematics, Data Visualization, or Analytics.
No prior professional experience required; relevant coursework or skills are expected to benefit the UN during the internship.
If previously completed a UN internship, provide entity and assignment dates.
Languages
Fluency in English is required.
English and French are the working languages of the UN.

Visa and Work Authorization Mandatory Requirements:
For internships in the U.S., non-citizens or non-permanent residents require a G4 visa.
Selected interns must ensure valid visa and approved employment authorization (CPT/OPT/AT).
