Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities):

Main purpose of Internship:

To support the Chevening Officer in administrative and logistical duties, the implementation of projects, the organisation of events and other general tasks for the management of the Chevening Scholarships Programme in Colombia. Chevening is the UK’s flagship scholarships programme to enable outstanding emerging leaders to pursue one-year master’s degrees in the UK.

Responsibilities will include to support project management and the logistical organisation of events, including receptions and public presentations (both in-person and online). Other important tasks entail the logistical support for sifting and interviewing Chevening candidates and constant updating of databases and other information for the success of the programme. The intern will also support communications (liaising with the Embassy’s communications team) and will constantly engage with the Chevening Alumni Association of Colombia for joint activities and tasks for the visibility and management of the programme.

There will also be opportunities to support the broader Political Section, including attending internal or external meetings and events; providing inputs for political reporting, including the weekly update; possibly supporting activities involving the Ambassador or Deputy Head of Mission; other opportunities that may arise.

Roles and responsibilities:

Chevening (65%)

  • Arrange the logistics and services for Chevening, including by liaising with external partners or suppliers and attending events. This may require helping to transport and set up banners and other branding materials.
  • Deliver other logistical and administrative tasks related to Chevening, like remote or in-persons presentations or events.
  • Liaise with the Comms team for logistics and/or relevant information for media and/or external stakeholders.
  • Identify reliable and value for money suppliers and build good relationships. Keep records of suppliers, services and support financial management of specific events.
  • Liaise with the Communications Team or the Chevening Alumni Association Colombia for the production of social media or internal communications content.

Political section (35%):

  • Support the logistics of wider activities of the Political Section (including accommodation, transport, catering, audiovisual equipment and any special needs).
  • Attend meetings with internal or external stakeholders and prepare relevant readouts.
  • Contribute to political reporting and monitoring.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience:

Essential on arrival:

  • Currently enrolled in the last semesters of university degree in communications, international relations, political science, education or a related subject at a Colombian university.
  • Available full-time.
  • Responsible, enthusiastic and committed during the learning experience.
  • Able to interact and collaborate effectively with different teams.
  • Deliver effective results to deadlines.
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English and Spanish.
  • Experience in event management.
  • Proficient use of the editing software Canva.

Level of language required: Fluency in English and Spanish – at least B2 level according to the CEFR

  • Must be currently enrolled in undergraduate studies, in a Colombian university in a relevant course
  • Must have the availability of at least 6 months before my graduation date (to complete my internship)
  • Availability to start their internship on the proposed date: To be defined with candidate

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience:

Desirable:

  • Knowledge and interest in politics and current affairs.
  • Knowledge of organising online events using MS Teams.
  • Interest in the UK and its work in Colombia.
  • Strong drafting skills in English and Spanish.
