Job Description – Chevening Internship, British Embassy Colombia

Main Purpose of Internship:
To support the Chevening Officer with administrative and logistical duties, project implementation, event organisation, and general tasks for managing the Chevening Scholarships Programme in Colombia. Chevening is the UK’s flagship scholarship programme, enabling outstanding emerging leaders to pursue one-year master’s degrees in the UK.

The intern will support project management and logistics for events, including receptions and public presentations (both in-person and online). Key responsibilities also include assisting with candidate sifting and interviews, maintaining databases, supporting communications with the Embassy’s communications team, and engaging with the Chevening Alumni Association of Colombia for joint activities and programme visibility.

Opportunities may also arise to support the broader Political Section, including attending meetings and events, contributing to political reporting (e.g., weekly updates), supporting activities involving the Ambassador or Deputy Head of Mission, and other related tasks.

Roles and Responsibilities

Chevening Programme Support (65%)

  • Arrange logistics and services for Chevening, liaising with external partners or suppliers and attending events. This may include transporting and setting up banners and branding materials.
  • Deliver other logistical and administrative tasks related to Chevening, including support for remote or in-person presentations and events.
  • Liaise with the Communications Team for media and stakeholder support.
  • Identify reliable and cost-effective suppliers, maintain records, and support financial management of specific events.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Team or Chevening Alumni Association Colombia to produce social media or internal communications content.

Political Section Support (35%)

  • Support logistics for wider Political Section activities, including arranging accommodation, transport, catering, audiovisual equipment, and special requirements.
  • Attend meetings with internal or external stakeholders and prepare relevant readouts.
  • Contribute to political reporting and monitoring.
Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
  • Currently enrolled in the final semesters of a university degree in communications, international relations, political science, education, or a related field at a Colombian university.
  • Available full-time for the internship.
  • Responsible, enthusiastic, and committed during the learning experience.
  • Able to collaborate effectively with different teams.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to deliver results to deadlines.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Spanish (minimum B2 level according to CEFR).
  • Experience in event management.
  • Proficient in using Canva for editing and design.
  • Must have at least six months of availability before graduation.
  • Availability to start the internship on the agreed date.
Desirable Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
  • Knowledge and interest in politics and current affairs.
  • Experience organising online events using MS Teams.
  • Interest in the UK and its work in Colombia.
  • Strong drafting skills in English and Spanish.
