The Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities. Interns must be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience.

In general, the Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who:

  • have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities;
  • are holding a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations and/or for whom internship is required to complete their studies; or
  • are sponsored by governmental/non governmental institutions and/or academia to work in specific areas relevant to both IOM and the sponsor.
  • are either enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or have graduated in the last 12 months.
  • are between 20 and 36 years of age.

The IOM Transition and Recovery Unit (TRU) in South Sudan is seeking a remote intern to support the work of the programme team. This internship offers an opportunity to learn about IOM’s Transition and Recovery work in South Sudan, gain initial work experience, and develop knowledge across a broad range of technical areas within Transition and Recovery programming.

Working under the overall supervision of the Programme Coordinator (TRU) and the direct supervision of the HLP officer, the intern will be responsible for the following duties and tasks:

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct desk research on HLP issues in South Sudan, including customary and statutory tenure systems, gender dimensions, and conflict dynamics.
  • Assist in monitoring HLP activities such as legal awareness, mediation, and land access initiatives.
  • Contribute to the drafting of reports, briefing notes, case studies, and training materials.
  • Assist in dissemination and routine updates of the Due diligence toolkit.
  • Contribute to the design of new HLP-related tools and resources.
  • Support and document IOM HLP team’s engagement with the the Humanitarian Cluster framework includes an Area of Responsibility (AoR) focused on Housing, Land, and Property (HLP) .
  • Prepare monthly updates and reports for AoR focal points.
  • Assist in planning consultations for the development of an HLP training curriculum and contribute to curriculum drafting.
  • Track HLP team monthly activities (e.g., TDYs, resources, country support).
  • Draft and disseminate monthly updates for the internal IOM HLP Community of Practice.
  • Help plan and organize knowledge-sharing events (e.g., webinars, brown bag discussions).
  • Develop knowledge of HLP programming through research, toolkit development, and resource mapping.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A degree from an accredited academic institution, preferably in Law, International Development, Social Sciences, International Relations, or a related field. Candidates should have no more than two years of relevant professional experience following the completion of their studies.

Experience: Experience in related field is advantageous.

Languages: Fluency in English is required (Oral and Written)

Travel required: Home based- Remote
