Vacancy Code VA/UNOPS/NAO/AoC/6 Post Title Website/Clearinghouse Manager Post Level A4 (equivalent ICS 11) Project Alliance of Civilizations Duty Station New York, NY, USA Duration ASAP through 31 December 2007 (initially) **Closing Date 9 July 2007** **Project Background** The Alliance of Civilizations, launched by the Office of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and co-sponsored by the Prime Ministers of Spain and Turkey, responds to a broad consensus across nations, cultures and religions that all societies are interdependent, bound together in their development and security, and in their environmental, economic and financial well-being. The Alliance seeks to forge collective political will and to mobilize concerted action at the institutional and civil society levels to overcome the prejudice, misperceptions and polarization that militate against such a consensus. The Alliance hopes to contribute to a coalescing global movement which, reflecting the will of the vast majority of people, rejects extremism in any society. The AoC project whose Secretariat is based in New York, NY, is funded by multiple donors and executed by UNOPS. **Duties and Responsibilities** The Alliance of Civilizations website needs to be restructured to reflect the new mandate of the organization, as it becomes focused on implementation and outreach. The website should portray the Alliance as a dynamic organization dedicated to improving intercultural relations among nations and communities worldwide in the priority areas of youth, media, education and migration. In addition, as part of its Action Plan, the Alliance will develop an Online Clearinghouse, providing access to resources and best practices on regional cooperation frameworks and on cooperation projects in a range of key areas, including media literacy, journalist training and human rights education. This clearinghouse will be designed and developed as an integral part of the Alliance website, on the basis of materials and resources collected by a range of researchers. Working closely with the Deputy Director, the Website/Online Clearinghouse Manager will be responsible for the restructuring and management of the Alliance website as well as for the design and development of the Clearinghouse. RESPONSIBILITIES: Restructure, develop and manage the Alliance of Civilizations’ website: - Working in collaboration with a web design firm, develop and implement a strategy for restructuring the website (including additional sections and pages, navigational tools and enhanced design). - Re-organize the material already available on the website and develop the architecture for a range of new materials, including photographs and video clips. - Establish template formats and logical structures for web pages. - Coordinate, integrate, and manage information contributed to the website. - Undertake regular website analysis and evaluation (including number of visits, users’ profiles, etc.) - Carry out all aspects of administrative and technical management of the website and ensure data security and integrity. - Develop a design and structure for the Alliance of Civilizations electronic newsletter. Develop, design and manage the Alliance of Civilizations’ online clearinghouse: - Identify and coordinate relations with a web design firm to develop an effective and well-structured clearinghouse concept. - In collaboration with this web design company, conceptualize and implement a user-friendly, easyto- navigate architecture for the clearinghouse. - Design and implement interactive features allowing updating of the clearinghouse and monitoring of input. - Develop an effective design for the online clearinghouse. - Liaise with a network of content providers and input a range of materials (including links to organizations, publications and events). - Develop an effective search engine (including cross-referencing features). - Develop and implement a strategy to maximize links to related sites and web traffic. - Develop and implement user feedback mechanism. **Required Competencies & Knowledge** - Good communication (spoken and written) skills - In-depth knowledge of and extensive experience in website design and development - Ability to operate and develop a web presence independently of technical support - Knowledge of state-of-the-art and innovative IT and electronic communication tools and applications - Strong attention to detail - Ability to work in a multicultural and international environment - Ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines. **Academic Qualifications/Experience/Language** - Masters Degree in computer science, information technology, or related field - Minimum 8-10 years of progressively responsible experience related to website design and development and maintenance for high visibility regional and/or international organizations - Minimum 8-10 years of experience in Online Clearinghouse development - Experience in both public and private sector organizations desirable - Fluency in spoken and written English - Working knowledge of French, Spanish and/or Arabic desirable. **Submission of Applications** Qualified candidates may submit their application, including a letter of interest, complete Curriculum Vitae and an updated United Nations Personal History Form ( template may be obtained from ), two website samples/references and two online clearinghouse samples/references, to **Mr. Oscar Hernandez**, via e-mail to . **Kindly indicate the vacancy number and the post title when applying** (in the subject line by e-mail). **Additional Considerations** - Applications received after the closing date will not be considered. - Only those candidates that are short-listed for interviews will be notified. - Qualified female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. - UNOPS reserves the right to appoint a selected candidate at a level below the advertised level of the post.
