Job Description
Chemonics seeks a laboratory logistics specialist to join its Global Health Supply Chain–Procurement and Supply Management project in Zambia. The laboratory logistics specialist will work within the management structure of Medical Stores Limited’s Logistics Management Unit, managed by an assigned supervisor, to provide technical guidance and advice for procurement and supply management work in laboratory commodities and test logistics. Responsibilities include:
- Support receipt of all laboratory commodities to ensure accurate product identification and avoid multiple code creation in the warehouse management system
- Facilitate timely entry of lab commodities received into MACS software
- Facilitate movement of commodities from QC (status 4) and Restricted (status 7) to the usable status (status 1)
- Conduct an inventory of products sitting on different statuses
- Conduct visual inspection of lab commodities to ensure receipt of high-quality lab products
- Analyze laboratory products and identify those that are short-dated for the purposes of providing information for intervention design
- Monitor cold-chain products and maintain data loggers for stock in storage and in transit
- Provide guidance to distribution staff on the appropriate methods for parking cold-chain products scheduled for transportation
- Support issuance of lab commodities to facilities by ensuring that available products are picked
- Investigate any complaints from customers that are related to issuance of lab products
- Reconcile product receipts and issues for lab products on a monthly basis
- Work with the Logistics Management Unit to assess quality of reports and provide support to facilities where necessary
- Identify and document causes of product adjustments in the pipeline database
- Participate in forecasting and quantification of laboratory commodities, including HIV test kits
- Provide guidance to pickers and parkers
- Carry out assigned additional responsibilities in consultation with assigned supervisor
- Respond to lab queries from the Ministry of Health and lab stakeholders
Qualifications:
- Biomedical sciences degree with three to five years of work experience, or a laboratory technology diploma with six to 10 years of work experience
- Minimum four years of work experience in a Level III hospital laboratory
- Experience with HIV test kits and other laboratory logistics systems (i.e. microbiology reagents, histology reagents, general reagents, and consumables) strongly preferred
- Experience working with HIV/AIDS-related diagnosis instruments, such as FACS count, Calibur, Sysmex Poch, ABX Micros, ABX Pentra, Cobas Integra, Humaster, Cobas C111, ABX Pentra 200, Cobas Taqman 48, and Sysmex XS
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other programs
- Experience with databases
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
- Proficient English (written and spoken) required
- Demonstrated leadership, integrity, and versatility
