Devex Talent Solutions is currently assisting Roots in their search for a Manager, Finance and Administration to be based in Vancouver, Canada.

The Role

Become an integral part of our mission to scale high-integrity nature-based climate solutions. Under the overall supervision of the Managing Director, the role of the Manager, Finance and Administration will be responsible for establishing and driving best practices in finance, administration, and human resources within the organization and for the Vancouver office. As Roots expands its operations, she/he will lead in the set-up of systems, procedures, and policies to ensure effective project management and increase the accountability and transparency of Roots, and within its operations. Roots is looking for an individual who is a motivated self-starter, keen to work within a start-up environment and committed to contributing towards efforts to build a sustainable future.

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee overall financial and administrative management, execution, monitoring and reporting for the Organization.
  • Establish and operate effective accounting and bookkeeping systems including monitoring accounts, establishing payments schedules and executing payment obligations.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial and management reports, including
  • income statement, balance sheet, budget and variance, projections and forecast, and cash flow.
  • Ensure strong adherence with laws and compliance governing non-profits in Canada (including BC Societies Act and Canadian law) and alignment with best practices.
  • Provide information and guidance to the Managing Director, the Board, and managers to inform decision-making surrounding budgets, critical resource allocation and cost management.
  • Support the Managing Director in negotiations for funding or service agreements with private donors, foundations, non-profits, government agencies, contractors, or other parties, and manage resulting contracts obligations.
  • Plan and carry out timely and regular reconciliations and financial monitoring. Proactively identify issues and elevate concerns.
  • Develop programming budgets and financial monitoring plans for project proposals and resource mobilization.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate financial risk through effective risk management strategies, establishing safeguards and internal controls.
  • Monitor and respond to changes in regulatory requirements, economic conditions, and industry trends to anticipate potential risks and opportunities for the Organization.
  • Manage payroll, recruitment, onboarding and training of Roots staff.
  • Develop financial analysis for growing areas of programming, including related to carbon credits
  • Establish human resource and organizational policies in coordination with the Managing Director and the Board.
  • Manage finance and administration staff, consultants and contractors.

Qualifications

  • Must have a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience specifically related to financial and administration management.
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree preferred in Finance, Public Administration, Economis or other relevant field.
  • Experience working in finance and administration for for non-profit, charities or government entities.
  • Excellent written and spoken communications skills in English are required.
  • Excellent proficiency in financial management and accounting tools, Microsoft excel, etc
  • Familiarity with non-profit financial obligations, governance, administration.
  • Knowledge/experience within the Voluntary Carbon Market an asset
  • Experience working for a start-up considered an asset.
  • Experience working on forest and land sector and/or climate policies and programming an asset.
  • Must be able to travel internationally (Up to four weeks per year).
