Project Overview

Pact’s Strengthening Youth and Women’s Civic Participation Program aims to increase collaboration, sustainability, and resilience of civil society and independent media to advance the inclusion, participation and leadership of youth and women in Sudan. The activity will apply locally led, problem-driven, adaptive approaches.

Position Purpose

Pact seeks a consultant to advise the Strengthening Youth and Women’s Civic Participation Program Team on the technical approach for the access to information and media component of the program and the feasibility of proposed activities in applications from civil society and independent media organizations working in Sudan, and on Sudan from regional locations. The consultant will serve as a technical resource and collaborate closely with Pact staff based in the US or Kenya. This is a part time remote position, but activities may take place in East Africa. Key Responsibilities and Tasks

The Media Advisory Consultant will assist Pact to develop a strategic approach to address access to information challenges and technical support to independent media actors in Sudan to achieve program goals, working with partner organizations and Pact staff at all levels. Key tasks include the following:

  • Analyze findings from media and partner landscape assessments or other reports to inform programmatic activities.
  • Provide technical feedback on proposals and work plans for grants to media groups.
  • Engage with media partners and outlets to better understand their capacity constraints and technical needs to inform a media technical assistance approach.
  • Coordinate with program staff to develop strategic approach to engaging and support media actors, including assisting Pact to have a better understanding of the information ecosystem, coordination and/or overlap amongst stakeholders, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Advise on strategic communications or outreach for the program.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Past experience working in media or supporting media development in Sudan
  • University degree and at least 5 years work experience in media space
  • Understanding of donor project cycle and preferred experience with USAID-funded awards
  • Excellent communication skills in English (both written and oral) are required
  • Oral fluency in Arabic is required.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage a complex workload and deadlines
  • Highly motivated and results oriented with the ability to plan ahead
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively on a wide range of issues. Ability to work successfully across multiple time zones and cultures.
  • Sudanese nationals strongly preferred.
