Duties and Responsibilities
The mandate of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is to promote sustainable and inclusive development and regional connectivity in the Asia and Pacific region. ESCAP’s role as a regional development arm of the United Nations Secretariat is to support its membership with policy-oriented research and analysis, normative support, technical assistance, and capacity building, in response to the development priorities and evolving needs of the region.

This internship is located within the Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT), Department of Management (DM).
The internship is UNPAID and full-time. The minimum duration is two months, extendable up to six months. Interns work five days per week (37.5 hours) under the supervision of a staff member.

Responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background and the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in creating and editing videos
  • Supporting graphic design, photography, and photo editing
  • Researching, compiling, drafting, and editing basic information for media production
  • Drafting and preparing background documents, reports, talking points, articles, and presentations
  • Supporting event organization, website management, and public information distribution
  • Assisting in database maintenance
  • Performing other related duties as required

Qualifications/Special Skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher)
  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent)

No prior work experience is required. Applicants should possess training, education, advanced coursework, or skills that would benefit the United Nations during the internship. Selected candidates will be contacted directly by the hiring manager.

Languages

  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required
  • Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish)

Internship Conditions
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
All costs related to travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the intern’s responsibility or that of their sponsoring institution.
Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the host country may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization before beginning the internship.
