Position: Media Training Specialist

Location: Rwanda

Reports To: Director

Division: Media, Technology and Civil Society

Summary of Position

IREX seeks a Media Training Specialist to design and implement at a potential donor-funded program focused on elections journalism in Rwanda. The goal of this program is to build the capacity of media professionals to provide higher quality, transparent and balanced reporting. The position is partially contingent on funding.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Design approach and prepare proposal in line with donor requirements
  • Provide vision and strategic direction for the program
  • Develop and maintain effective partnerships with journalists and media and civil society organizations in Rwanda
  • Provide hands-on training and mentoring to professional and citizen journalists, editors and managers across a range of Rwandan media platforms, with an emphasis on elections reporting
  • Contribute to program monitoring, evaluation and reporting requirements

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated success in developing post-conflict and transitioning media sectors required
  • On-the-ground experience with Rwandan media strongly preferred
  • Successful experience in designing programming approaches and preparing proposals to donors required
  • Ability to provide training and mentoring to journalists in the utilization of a range of media tools and platforms
  • Experience in program management and donor-funded projects preferred
  • Professional proficiency in English required; professional proficiency in French preferred
  • Immediate short-term availability required
