Functional responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the UNMAS Operations/Quality Assurance Officer, the Operations - Associate (Operations and Quality Assurance) will perform the following duties:
Field Monitoring & Quality Assurance (QA)
Conduct field monitoring and QA missions in alignment with project plans.
Support capacity-building initiatives for national NGOs and mine action centers.
Coordination & Representation
Facilitate coordination among Explosive Hazard Sub-Cluster members and support UNMAS engagement in Protection Clusters to strengthen humanitarian mine action (HMA) responses.
Liaise with national mine action authorities and external stakeholders.
Operational Support
Assist in overseeing UNMAS mine action operations at the sub-national level, ensuring implementation and completion.
Provide operational support to UNMAS field offices (e.g., South Kordofan, Blue Nile).
Victim Assistance & Training
Support victim assistance programs, including data collection, training, and coordination meetings.
Assist the Mine Action Advisory Team in training delivery and material development.
Reporting & Documentation
Draft progress reports and provide substantive inputs for project reports.
Translate documents (Arabic/English) in line with UN standards.
Incident Management & Analysis
Contribute to investigations of mine-related incidents/accidents.
Analyze project reports and recommend adjustments as needed.
Administrative & Logistical Support
Organize internal/external meetings, prepare briefing materials, and record minutes.
Maintain tracking systems for pending issues and follow up on action points.
Education/Experience/Language requirements
Education:
A First Level University Degree (Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent) with two (2) years of relevant experience, OR
High School Diploma (Secondary or equivalent) with six (6) years of relevant experience is required.
Experience:
Relevant experience is defined as experience in operations management, operations support, project management or business administration.
Two years experience in preparing project plans, scheduling, or coordinating events is required.
Two years of experience in report writing is required.
Experience in supporting operations in humanitarian, conflict, post-conflict, Non-profit Organisations (NGOs) or development contexts is desired.
Computer literacy, with solid experience in using Microsoft Office, is required.
EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) qualified - Level 2 or 3 is desired.
Languages:
Fluency in English (speaking, writing and reading) is required.
Fluency in Arabic (speaking, writing and reading) is required.
Knowledge of another UN official language is desired.
