Job Description

The Product Manager (Giga Maps) will be based in Barcelona, Spain, as part of the Giga Barcelona Tech Centre, where product innovation and development are driven forward. The Product Manager (Giga Maps) will lead the lifecycle of several of Giga’s digital products (including tools for connectivity mapping, measurement, and monitoring) ensuring that they are user-centered, data-driven, and impactful.

Launched in 2019, Giga is a joint initiative by UNICEF and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) that aims to connect every school in the world to the Internet and every young person to information, opportunity, and choice.

Half of the world’s population still lacks regular Internet access. Millions of children complete school without digital skills, widening the digital divide between the connected and the unconnected—a divide made even starker during the COVID-19 pandemic. Giga seeks to address this inequality by mapping schools, measuring connectivity, and supporting governments and partners to deliver affordable and sustainable Internet access.

To date, Giga has mapped over 2.1 million schools across 140 countries, supported 40+ national governments, and contributed to connecting more than 20,000 schools globally.

Under the supervision of the Mapping/Data Product Lead, the Product Manager (Giga Maps) will be responsible for overseeing the design, development, and delivery of Giga’s digital products and tools, including data platforms, web applications, and measurement tools. The Product Manager (Giga Maps) will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of engineers, designers, data scientists, and researchers to bring products from concept to market, ensuring alignment with user needs and organizational goals.

Your main responsibilities and tasks will be:

  • Manage the product development lifecycle of Giga’s digital tools, including the Giga Meter (connectivity measurement app), Giga Maps (school connectivity web platform), and monitoring dashboards.

  • Collaborate with the Product Lead to define and implement product strategy, roadmap, and go-to-market plans for Giga’s connectivity and data products.

  • Build Figma and no-code prototypes (e.g., Webflow) to test new product ideas, validate features, and demonstrate proof-of-concept.

  • Conduct user and market research to gather insights, prioritize needs, and guide product design and development.

  • Coordinate with vendors and technology partners, defining requirements, managing timelines, and ensuring quality deliverables.

  • Work closely with engineers, designers, and data scientists to define user stories, prioritize features, and deliver products in agile sprints.

  • Define and track key performance metrics to measure product impact, user adoption, and satisfaction.

  • Support internal and external communication of product progress, including documentation, blog posts, and presentations.

  • Ensure the continuous improvement and sustainability of Giga’s products through iterative feedback and data-driven decision making.
