Duties and Responsibilities
The mandate of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is to promote inclusive economic, social and environmental development and support regional cooperation and integration in the Asia-Pacific region. ESCAP’s role as a regional development arm of the United Nations Secretariat is to support its membership, through its analytical, normative and technical cooperation work, to respond to the development priorities and changing needs of the Asia-Pacific region.
The internship is located in the Capacity Development and Partnerships Section (CPS) of the Strategy and Programme Management Division (SPMD). The internship is for a duration of 3 months with possibility of extension to a maximum of 6 months, depending on the needs of the division. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the division/section to which they are assigned.
The intern will assist the Capacity Development and Partnerships Section of the Strategy and Programme Management Division. Under the guidance of Professional Staff in the Section, main duties will be related to (but not limited to) the below tasks:

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Masters or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelors, Masters or PH.D. Programme.

Applicants must be proficient in using digital tools and platforms (e.g., MS Office Suite, collaboration tools, social media, and AI applications). Basic knowledge of machine learning concepts and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) is an asset.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
